2017-18 Cleveland Indians Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Expected offseason so far.

Both Santana and Shaw were going to be gone, that was expected. What matters is what moves they make to fill those voids. Intrigued to see what they can do with Kipnis and Salazar and what kind of moves they can make as FA drags on and guys get desperate. Interesting that Carlos only got 3 years, IMO.

Will be able to get someone much more useful for 1B on a regular basis. One position they can really take their pick of the 2nd tier options.
They were linked to LoMo, probably will be linked again, but he's coming off a weird late blooming season. Can't trust that guy.

I was joking about the vocal posters who acted like Santana was awful and holding the team back the last few years. Surely we’re a better team now to them.

And they can play this in a way that makes their overall team better next year than last year, but that’ll require them trading, not playing in free agency.

Any ideas of what they can do because right now I'm not getting the warm and fuzzys. Santana is a big loss.

To the Phillies? Really, Carlos? Well cant fault him for chasing money I suppose, just...damn.

These losses hurt considering what they meant to our team and when you add in the injuries bound to happen between a few guys. We lost 2 clubhouse leaders 2 years in a row in Nap and 'Los, Shaw departing will hurt regardless, Tito loved him, and he saved Miller's arm sometimes.

Wonder why Kipnis wouldn’t be thrown in on that deal. Bringing back Baez and Happ really defeats the purpose of him.
I find it hard to believe we would be able to acquire both.

Not a fan of Allen, but who steps into his role?

Hosmer puts up slightly better Batting numbers and is younger so his production shouldn’t decrease, but his defenses isn’t as strong, but he won’t get any less per season than Santana but should get 5 years at least.

Losing Shaw and Santana means we lost our most durable players overall. They will be a big loss and haters will see that next season

He followed the bigger paycheck than even projected since that 5 mil over what was projected, but at the same time it gives the Indians 15 mil to use in Free Agency so I am expecting them to sign someone probably here soon.

Now it’s possible we keep Kipnis and Move Brantley/Chisenhall to 1st base. We will find a RH OF as well either like Upton/Jackson.

Am I wrong for saying we should sign Cain to play in CF?

Can Kipnis play first...? Lol

Not really sure they get him either- if Boston or Seattle loses out on Hosmer too I can see them turning to him, frankly- I don't really think his bloom was 'wierd'. I've been a Logan Morrison fan for years, while I would have much rather had him when he was cheaper I think his power was legit. The balls aren't being unjuiced anytime soon, I think he can at least come close to the same production. Dude has always had baller potential. That being said, I expect someone more like Matt Adams. What I would love even more, though, would be for them to rescue a blocked 1B prospect from another team and see what happens. This team hasn't been able to really explore trades like that the last few years since they were contending. One guy in particular I would love to see would be AJ Reed w/ the Astros. Not sure what they would want for him, though, or if he is available.

Christ.

Expect that they look at the likes of Morrison, Alonso, and Duda.

Santana brings more to the table than all obviously, but all of these guys should be close or more than half the price.

Never said they didn't hurt- but pretending like this is a shocker is absurd, both guys were gone once they said they wanted to hit the market. And let's not act like they aren't replaceable, either- there are decent offensive 1B available all the time in FA and Bryan Shaw was an auxiliary part in the Bauer/Choo trade. This team has dumpster-dived for several relievers. And let's not forget how few relievers put in a workload like Bryan Shaw has- that arm is going to fall off sooner or later, and I am going to go out on a limb and guess that the Indians approach to conditioning pitchers has had a little to do with how they have taken the Dan Oteros, Bryan Shaws and Zach McAllisters of the baseball world and developed a pretty good bullpen. I think if the FO can find the right arms this staff (even sans Micky Calloway) can get them worked into dependable BP arms for Tito to abuse.

They can better balance stuff by moving a starter not named Kluber, Carrasco, and Bauer, moving Kip, and moving Naquin and improve where they are lacking.

If they sign someone like Morrison, but get an upgrade at 3B or 2B or in the OF, I think they can be a deeper offense than last year.

They have the pieces to make a major splash through a trade. Will they? I don’t see why not now, with them potentially losing Allen, Miller, and Brantley next year, and the lone splash free agent they could have got getting scooped up.
