2017-2018 Around the NBA

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
San Antonio is playing the long game btw. They could unload Danny Green at any moment and throw down a huge chunk of change at Kyle Lowry. But they look at that group and properly conclude that's not good enough.

Chris Paul might have been. But Lowry wouldn't be. So why strap yourselves right now when you can position to strike in two years.
Which is smart. This is the game I want us to start playing IF we can't get Melo for scraps

I still think Melo for scraps can save the day. Mostly because of the potential of that offense. But we would need to be scoring about 130 a game to win that series which is possible with that lineup

Think the big thing to hope for right now is that we A) Find someone who values Shumpert and will give us a little something back for him while giving us a TPE and 2) Hayward going back to Utah.

If he goes back, Utah would be in line to be a taxpaying team. I don't think that's something they generally like to do. So if we had a big TPE, we could be in position to eat someone off of their roster (like Burks). Burks can't stay healthy, and his value is low accordingly, but if he is healthy, he gives you what you want Shumpert to give you. 100% effort on the defensive end at all times and an ability to guard smaller quicker guards and bigger, more physical guards.

That's the type of risk I think is worth taking. Take a shot at an injury prone guy and hope you get lucky and he stays healthy.

But you have to move Shumpert sooner rather than later. The order in which these things happens matters. If Utah keeps Hayward before we've moved Shumpert, that lowers our chances of finding a spot for Shumper if they, too, look to dump someone like Burks.

Some thing in San Antonio. If we can get a TPE before San Antonio decides they need to move Danny Green (like, let's say, Jonathon Simmons gets a massive offer), that takes away one team that can/will take on Green and opens us up as possible destination.

None of these things are guarantees. But one thing is: Shumpert doesn't play with the necessary intensity year round and doesn't produce against Golden State. If the worst thing that happens is we trade him for a TPE and then can't find a good use for the TPE, then are we really hurting ourselves all that much? No.

But the reward of finding a guy like Danny Green or a healthy Alec Burks because we made a preemptive move like this is big. Green specifically.

And these are the types of risks we need to take to help close the gap. If they pan out, we give ourselves a better shot, if they don't, well, we weren't winning anyway. And with the East getting ever weaker, the odds of us slipping up in the playoffs before the Finals because we traded away some rotational players lessens.

The West playoff race should be interesting

Seeds 1-4: Warriors, Spurs, Rockets, Thunder

Non-playoff contenders: Suns, Lakers, Kings, Mavs

8 Teams contending for Finals 5 spots:

-Utah- Lock for 3-5 seed if Hayward returns, probably a non-contender if he leaves

-Clippers- Losing CP3 is a devastating loss, but they did get some pretty good talent back. They're definitely not a top of the standings team anymore but I do believe they still have enough talent to make the playoffs.

-Memphis- Key contributors Randolph, Carter and Allen are free agents. Could potentially lose Green too if a team throws big money at him. Hard to know what to expect until after the dust settles.

-Portland- Pretty much the same team coming back. Looked like a much better team after they added Nurkic. Bubble playoff team

-Denver- Team on the rise. Got cold when Portland got hot last year and it cost them the 8 seed. Another bubble team.

-New Orleans- Super talented with Cousins and AD but seems like an incredibly thin roster.

-Minnesota- added Butler and Teague, lost LaVine and Rubio. Great addition with Butler, team still has a lot of issues. Think they're on the outside looking in.

We are going to hear a lot about ''NBA should shake up seeding and go top 16 outright''

It'll lead on to saying that LeBron has it easier than before like every other year, there'll be 4 more west teams deserving than an east team.

Prepare for this nonsense after free agency.

Unless a team comes out of nowhere, Gallinari better hope Denver ponies up to pay him what he wants, or else he ain't getting it. I don't see Boston throwing 20+ million at him.

Danilo is a very good offensive player. Unfortunately for him there is just less money out there this off season than last. He's also horrible on defense and doesn't provide much rebounding if you put him at power forward; which is his best position defensively.

If iguodola hit the open market last season I think he commands more money and possibly leaves.

I'm really hoping the kings don't fuck around and offer Otto porter a max. It's going to take a max for the wizards to pause and I think Porter is worth it. He would be a great fit on the young kings and it weakens the east even more.

The kings have a chasm size hole at small forward and a young good veteran in Porter who is extremely underrated would just be fantastic for what they need there. Length, defense, shooting and overall outstanding offensive efficiency.

So I don't understand. If Washington is "adamant" they'll match any offer, and Sacramento has offered the max...what's the negotiation here?

God damnit, Sacramento... why couldn't you give Iggy the max and fuck over the Warriors.

Good for the Kings. Let's see Washington put their money where their mouth is. This would put them in the luxury tax for the first time.

They would be dumb to do that with Otto Porter out there. This helps us too.

Watch out for Atlanta to now try and snipe some young player. Its rebuild time and theuve got all kinds of space.

They might throw the kitchen sink at Johmathon Simmons.

Millsap agreed to a 3 year deal with Denver....decent pairing with Nokic but don't think the overall composite of their team is that much better.

Gallo is gone who played well at PF next to Jokic. Wilson Chandler was a stud at times and continues to be a nice asset. Gary Harris is overvalued but a good player and I like Jamal Murday's upside but he doesn't Make them a playoff team in west.

Denver is a weird. A lot of good young talent, and a team trying to cannon-ball into the playoffs.

Barton is an intriguing piece that could be on the move....
