2017-2018 off-season thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The best part about this offseason was the ridiculous roster posts where we acquired all the all-stars that were available. Because, you know, basketball fit is overrated.

In Memoriam

Wade
PG13
Lebron
Melo
Love

To be fair, Wade is still on the table lol.

I just see Lebron leaving to "fat Elvis" his business side some more with another franchise.

Meh. Not waiving his no-trade clause this offseason was a strange decision if he really wanted to head West.

I'm kinda annoyed that we couldn't land Melo or PG13.

I mean...I'm not upset at the idea of a guy like Rose or Thomas...but we're kinda asking for them to step up to replace a really good player in Kyrie.

OBVIOUSLY 2010-2012 Derrick Rose if he were to make some sort of comeback? That would be incredible. But man...that's asking a lot. His last good run was in 2015 it seems.

Once Crowder and Green were acquire, Melo no longer was a fit for this team, period. Wade on the other hand literally could become our starting SG and put JR in his best role as 6th man if he's bought out like expected. Before Crowder was acquired, Melo could have used Bron's SF minutes once he rested, as well as played the 3 when Lebron shifts to the 1 or 4, and could have even played the 4 with Love at the 5 in small ball lineups. That fit was no longer there and Melo would have became a distraction on this team not an asset. He going to the Thunder just made Golden States road that much more difficult.

This team is better than last year's...just watch and see
I agree...this is a really good team thats been assembled...our bench is light years ahead of last years collection of corpses....the Cavs have a great shot at another title and thats all you can hope for every season...screw Carmelo and his broken down body...let Wade go to OKC too we don't need him...

And thats a Game Changer right there
/Sarcasm
I understand why the sarcasm based on wade's current statistics

I will just say there probably isn't another player that knows LeBron's game better then Wade and vice versa

The two compliment each other on another level. LeBron Wade fast break was a thing of magic. Yes Wade is older but statistics show what my eyes already seen that both dropped off apart

LeBron had career highs in eFG% last two years in Miami 60% 61%. LeBron had career highs in 2pt% his last year in Miami at 62%.

He dropped to 53% his first year back in Cleveland. That's 9% difference. Now it's slowly moved back up going 53% 57% 61%

Wade had career high 2pt% his last year in Miami with LeBron at 55%. His first year without LeBron it dropped to 48%. That's a 7% drop. In fact Wade had career high 2pt% 3 of the 4 years with LeBron at 53% 53% 55%

I'm not counting on this type of return but would be optimistically thrilled to see some of that magic here

The Wade that played with Lebron is long gone my friend. We need defense and shooting, preferably in the same player, and Wade does none of those things at this point in his career.

In hindsight, the best trade we could have made this season would have been Irving for PG13 but everything the FO has done seems to have been influenced by LJ's "unwillingness to commit".

Well, that and it takes other teams to agree to that deal, which they did not.

On paper this team is significantly better than last year (JR/rose/crowder/green strengthen the bench, and rose gives us a solid backup pg we didn't have last season).

Biggest concern is obviously health and age, but that's out of our control.

There is definitely a sense of urgency- in beating the warriors in what could be lebron's last attempt as a cav. But there's also some assurance- in the first round picks (which may or may not be used to acquire all start talent(s) during the season.), and the east being extremely weak this season goes in our favor.

We can't blame the front office, they did well with the Kyrie drama, and had Gilbert not fired griffin, we probably could've landed PG. Oh well.

Def think this group of players is more motivated this time around, and many of them seem to be out to prove their doubters wrong. Really looking forward to the season.

Overall we screwed up the off season badly. We got further away from competing with GS. Rose and Green are indeed nice adds off the bench, Crowder is a good add too, and if we hadn't lost anybody from last year we would be looking at a marginal upgrade. But we lost a top 20 NBA player who was under contract for another two years and didn't replace him with another top 20 NBA player. The best thing we got was the NJ pick and that will not really help us this year.

What we really needed was to add a major piece in the form of a top two way player, and despite two such players moving this off season for relatively little we didn't get either of them.
IT was in MVP talks last season...
