2017-2018 off-season thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
True, but it's not like we need him to be this big offensive player. As long as he defends well, I'm fine with him coming to Cleveland.
The sag off on offense would make Richard Jefferson blush.

I'm not a big Love fan, but why some of you do want Cousins over KLove?! For me KLove with all his bad defense and inside game still better than Cousins!
The only player that I would trade Love for him is PG!

Kevin love has an inside game? And it's better than cousins? How many shots at the rim did love miss?

LeBron has never fared well with a back to the basket type of guy. Add in the "new teammates" gel period & the headache's Cousins will cause...its a pass for me.

Pass on Cousins. He doesn't make you better vs GS. He's another guy that requires you to initiate offense for him.

Trade kyrie for pg13 and i love kyrie to death.. Kyrie has more perceived value in the nba compared to love.. And trading him dor pg13 improves our defense.. Pg13 is as dynamic playmaker and scorer as kyrie..

This is what I keep saying. I think Indiana would say no to Love, but they would do it for Kyrie. I also think it would be easier to replace Kyrie with a good PG (maybe less of a scorer, more of a distributor, and hopefully better defender) than it would be to replace Love as a stretch 4 who dominates the boards. There aren't very many guys like Love.

Kyrie is an absolute stud on offense, but so is Paul George, and he greatly improves the defense, which Kyrie is terrible at. This would work even better if we can somehow get Melo to add another guy who can score on his own in addition to George and Lebron.

One thing I will say about Melo.

Melo could play defense. Not just average defense. Very good defense actually. He used to guard Kobe when he was at Denver and gave Kobe trouble with his length and size because Kobe wasn't able to post him up or get a clean look that easily. He did all the basics right. Even LeBron used to bring his A-Game against Melo. Its just that he was lazy as fuck to do it the entire season.

But that was around 10 odd years ago. He is what, 33 now and after so many injuries, even if he wanted to give his full effort on the defensive end, it may not be enough. If we can get Melo for Shump, Cedi, Frye and all, HELL YES! Even would do a straight-up TT for Melo swap but not for Love or Kyrie.

I agree with most here.

PG would be the dream scenario. I think he would be the ideal guy against GSW. But as some already said.. we wont get PG for TT + Shump or Love.. unless he totally goes "i wont resign anywhere but in Cle" and as much as we can hope for that its not realistic..

I dont want Chris Paul.. while he gets Steals he is not big or Strong enough to be better on Defense than Kyrie.. he cant switch..

We basically need a two way Star... That basically leaves PG and Butler. After that i dont think anybody(Melo,Cousins etc) is worth splitting up our Big 3.

I think there are two options for this years Offseason.

1) We manage to get one of PG or Butler for most likely Love. We play Lebron and one of PG/Butler at a fluent 2/3/4 Spot.

2.) We cant get one of PG or Butler.. Maybe we get Melo for scraps.. But most likely we keep our Core and try to get a better Bench especially. We need some two way Role Players.. on the right side of 35 ( meaning having enough left the next few years)

Trading Kyrie wont happen... Lebron has grown to love him and is his Mentor. Lebron + Kyrie is still the best offensive Duo in the NBA. KD and Steph are not better.. they just play a Team that is beyond stacked..

I really dont know what to expect. I think moves will happen.. quite substantial ones. After 2015 we had the "Lets get everybody healthy and we are good" thing. And it was true. This year it is clear that we simply cant compete with GSW as currently build. We mostly need ALOT more defense..

If Cavs hold onto Love, I think Haberstroh's deal makes sense particularly if Charlotte includes the No. 11 pick.

Thompson and MKG are a wash offensively. For the Cavs, MKG has a little more range and upside considering he's 23 and shot 78% on FT last year. Both have busted jumpers. Negatively, MKG has a much longer injury history than ironman Thompson.

Rebounding-wise, I think Love would pick up a lot of the slack on the defensive glass. With Love outside the perimeter, there'd be a dropoff on OREBs where TT is elite (5th in NBA). MKG did rank a pretty good 33rd in OREBs, however.

Cavs seem more likely to be able to snag a serviceable big on a minimum deal than a wing. They would need someone to play C in traditional lineups next to Love. For small-ball, MKG could fill in as defensive bodyguard for LeBron/Kyrie on any perimeter threat 1-4.

I think that you didn't understand my post! I said KLOVE with his bad defense and his bad inside game is better than Cuosins!

There's two ways you can go against them.

1. Is load up on all switchable guys, this would mean moving Love for a PG-13, try to snag another wing with the TPMLE and basically just have a collection of five or 6 playable 3/4 combo type guys.

2. You trade for someone like Cousins and try to overwhelm them inside. Grind out the pace, play a lot in the half court and just beat the shit out of them.

Our problem is, we're stuck in between. We don't have enough switchy players and we don't have someone that can really kill them inside.

So I wouldn't hate the Cousins route, especially because it additionally give us roster flexibility. Cousins will cost us about 25% less, so he could give you some wiggle room to add an additional player.

With all that said, who the hell knows. :chuckle: I wouldn't hate it but it also wouldn't be my first choice. I think worries about his personality are overblown, given how well J.R. has adjusted and fit in.

good points.

I'm leaning toward the Melo route as long as Love doesn't need moved in conjunction with it.

It adds another scorer and gives LBJ rest.
