I think Trey Rodriguez is full of shit. But playing along with your scenario, lets say we pull off that trade. We then split the MLE to Cedi and Tony Allen. Then vet mins to Andrew Bogut and Jamal Crawford to fill out the roster (since we are back to having fun being unrealistic). I would feel pretty damn good about our chances with this roster going into the finals next year:

PG: Kyrie, Crawford, Calderon
SG: JR, Korver, Allen
SF: Lebron, Green, Cedi
PF: Melo, TT
C: Love, Bogut, Tavares

Sadly we won't be able to just wish Iman "Monkeypaw" Shumpert away....

If we do trade Shumpert, would that pretty much make it impossible to execute a trade for Carmelo without including Love?

The Shumpert, Jefferson, Frye salaries would be enough if Carmelo reduced his trade kicker.

I suppose whomever we get in return for Shump, if it's an expiring contract rather than a trade exception, could be packaged in a Carmelo deal.

Earlier this year when Lebron lobbying for Love for Melo trade rumors popped up, Lebron called them trash. Lebron knows trading Love for Melo is a shitty trade for the Cavs.

I don't see how the Cavs improve as a team overall or in a matchup against the Warriors if they trade Love for Carmelo.

To me, they'd need to find a way to trade for Carmelo without including Love, or just drop the idea.

I think Carmelo is an improvement over Love vs. the Warriors. Its just the matchups imo. We need more guys who can put the ball on the floor vs. them and actually challenge Durant defensively. No longer pulling our hair out when Love scores below double figures. However, we need to keep Love as well to actually win the series over the Warriors.

I don't believe Love would be the 3rd scoring option on the team against the Warriors. He'd be the perfect 4th scoring option though. Dominate the glass, hit open jumpers.

That or LeBron really needs to tell Melo that he's been a better friend to him than Chris Paul. Its going to be up to LeBron to either convince Melo to just wait for the buyout or we're going to have to give up something.

If the Knicks are more desperate to trade Melo after signing Hardaway, forget offering Tristan. Knicks can choose between Shumpert+Frye+Jefferson, and Ryan Andersen's contract. If the Knicks beg like a dog enough, maybe we'll add Cedi.
