2017-2018 Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why is that? I follow the Buckeyes (and wife is an alumn), but they aren't really a basketball powerhouse. Sure, football will cover the costs, but still...

To me, schools like UCLA, Indiana, Kentucky, Duke, NC, Kansas, Louisville... those are the true coveted basketball coaching jobs.

Then you've got the schools like Arizona, Georgetown, Memphis, U Conn, Syracuse, and maybe Mich St., maybe Texas? I guess some would put Ohio St here... but I'm not sure I agree.

Then again, get a top recruiter type (is Billy Donovan the Urban Meyer of basketball?), and the lure might be strong, but I just don't see the Ohio State basketball program at the same level of desire-ability as the first group.

What am I missing, or does the football success raise the basketball program that much too?
Based on that list, OSU is the 12th to 14th best job in country, and I argue it's better than Memphis. A top 15 job certainly qualifies as one of the best in the country.

Figured I'd post a scholarship/roster breakdown for the next couple seasons. Regardless of who takes this job, their first year in Columbus could be pretty rough. However, depending on the recruiting prowess of whoever is brought in, that could also mean a quick turnaround for 2018-19.

2017-18 (9 scholarship players total, 13 allowed by NCAA):
Seniors (2) - Kam Williams, Jae'Sean Tate
Juniors (2) - Keita Bates-Diop (RS), CJ Jackson
Sophomores (2) - Andre Wesson, Micah Potter
Freshmen (3) - Derek Funderburk (RS), Kaleb Wesson, Braxton Beverly

2018-19 (9 prospective scholarship players total):
Seniors (2) - Keita Bates-Diop (RS), CJ Jackson
Juniors (2) - Andre Wesson, Micah Potter
Sophomores (3) - Derek Funderburk (RS), Kaleb Wesson, Braxton Beverly
2018 recruits (2) - Dane Goodwin, Justin Ahrens
Welp. This post is already out of date. Justin Ahrens just de-committed.

For those that don't know....

Frank Martin - South Carolina

Ed Cooley - Providence

Are these guys expected to jump ship this year or next year while OSU basketball has a Luke Fickell year this year?

They won't hire an interim and if they do, consider it a disaster

Beat writer for the Dispatch here did an interview on the radio this afternoon and he said the four main guys are Hoiberg, Mike Brown, Ed Cooley, and Bob Huggins.
