Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Creighton coach Greg McDermott getting an interview tonight.

My thought when Matta was fired was "With the timing of this, they must have someone lined up." Now, I'm not thinking that's the case. Damn.

McDermott offered, per ESPN

Look at this dogshit resume. His two best seasons came with his own kid on the team.

I'm not the kind of guy who blames everything on Gene Smith like some OSU fans. Far from it. The guy has actually done a good job in his tenure. This is inexcusable though. They'd have been better off just rolling with Matta this year.

Program is a fucking dumpster fire.

I'm more pissed about this potential hire and colossal fuck up by Gene Smith than the Cavs losing.

Does gene smith realize ticket sales are going to be even worse and that the fan base is disgusted?

And yeah Gene Smith has done good things kind of under the radar, but between this and costing the football team a National Championship Game he has two absolute colossal fuckups that will not be forgotten.

You guys realize he was only offered the job

Maybe that was leaked out for a reason, forcing someone's hand perhaps?

costing the football team a National Championship Game
The football team was going to get a bowl ban whether OSU self-imposed or not. I truly believe that. The NCAA was hellbent on making an example of OSU after the tattoo issue came to light. The more egregious part that Smith was involved with pertaining to that scandal was the embarrassing presser with he, Gordon Gee and Tressel.

Here's some pertinent details from Adam Jardy who covers the team for the Dispatch:
Smith did travel to Omaha, Nebraska, where it’s believed he met with McDermott, but he returned to Columbus early Thursday without him. Upon his arrival, Smith told The Dispatch that no deal is complete for a new coach and that he is still working through a long list of candidates. Smith refused to say who was on the list because of confidentiality.

Current Ohio State assistant Chris Jent interviewed with Smith on Wednesday afternoon, multiple sources told The Dispatch. Other candidates being considered include West Virginia coach Bob Huggins, Virginia Tech coach Buzz Williams and Golden State Warriors assistant Mike Brown. All were confirmed to The Dispatch by multiple sources as under consideration to some degree.

Sources close to Huggins indicated that he let Ohio State know that he was interested in the position with an eye on closing the borders, keeping top in-state talent at Ohio State and chasing a national championship within the next few years before retiring and handing the reins to an up-and-coming coach.

On Wednesday evening, sources were indicating that Smith would head to Cleveland today to talk with Brown.

In addition, Providence coach Ed Cooley, thought to have been under consideration, had not been contacted by the Buckeyes, The Dispatch confirmed.

I like Williams the most out of those four names. Part of me also thinks Potato Head could be a good college coach, especially from a recruiting standpoint. Not a lot of guys who can sit down in a kid's living room and say he coached Tim Duncan, LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kobe Bryant, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant, even if the word "coached" can perhaps be used loosely for some of those guys :chuckle:

I love Bobby Huggins. Yes.... yes.... I know.

But his players love him, and he gets recruits. Watching that full-court WVU press in March just gives me visions of an OSU team that, you know, gives a damn and plays hard....

This highlights the difference between football and basketball at OSU.

Tressel leaves and they get Meyer.

Matta leaves they get...McDermott?
