2017 Browns Mock Draft Thread

I think also teams like the Chiefs, Saints and possibly the Chargers also draft a QB to develop in this draft since their QBs are also getting on the older side. Not sure when the Giants will go after a young QB to develop as well.

Not to mention the browns value more draft picks than less. I don't think there is any chance in hell this front office trades up from 12 for anyone. I would guess there is a 40% chance they trade down

The only reason why the Browns will trade up as if they feel the player they are acquiring is better than overall picks they are using to trade up to get the player. Aka if they had a second player as the same grade as Garrett that fell to 5-6 range then they make the move, but there isn't another player with that high of a grade on anyone's boards so I don't see the move being made.

Should be clear that this is not a mock draft in the traditional sense of the word. I wish people wouldn't call these "What I'd do if I were GM" articles mock drafts. I guess they need the clicks, and its even more beneficial when people read things like Zach Cunningham going 12th and then share the link saying, 'Look at this idiot's mock draft'.

Also that draft is either going to be very good or the worst made period this whole offseason. Cunningham isn't coming to Cleveland at 12, that makes absolutely no sense to me at all. Thomas is a much better idea than Cunningham would be. Hooker is still there at 12, and Fournette goes 27! That's even stranger than I could cook up.

The combine basically confirmed this pick. Cleveland choosing Garrett is the easiest decision for a team picking No. 1 overall since the Colts drafted Andrew Luck.

12. Cleveland Browns (from Philadelphia)
O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama:

Do the Browns need an upgrade at quarterback? In the worst way. But is the “right” quarterback in this class? Time will tell. If Cleveland opts with another position player here, Howard, who was coached by Hue Jackson and the Browns’ staff at the Senior Bowl, makes a lot of sense.

33. Cleveland Browns: Tre’Davious White, CB, LSU

Cleveland needs corner help and the coaches had a chance to interact with White at the Senior Bowl.

52. Cleveland Browns (from Tennessee): Malik McDowell, DL, Michigan State

A top-five talent in the draft, McDowell could fall down draft boards due to maturity and effort concerns.

I think McDowell will be well gone by 52, and you can't call him a top 5 talent and expect him to fall to 52. That's just not logical unless he is fighting a case.

Cinci had a history of taking players w/ character concerns. I know we didn't get their GM, but Hue will have input in the draft, so I think he's of the (refreshing) mindset that they'll succeed because he'll coach them up.

There's so many possibilities, but I can see us trading down to the early 20's and picking up a 3rd, then taking McDowell there. I love OJ Howard, but with the depth at CB, S, and TE, I could see a strong argument for trading 12, based on last year's strategy and that white paper essentially concluding that the optimal strategy is to "acquire more darts" for the dartboard in rounds 2-3...

That'd be great. I think it's worth a good team's 2nd or a bad team's 3rd, and I'd love to be wrong.
