2017 Browns Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That's reality though. If the Browns are convinced he's their guy going forward they do what is necessary to get him. If the Patriots really like him and value him at a certain level, they shouldn't take anything less.

I guess that part we aren't agreeing on is the whole "If the Browns are convinced he's their guy" I don't know why people keep coming to that conclusion. It sounds like an assumption to me that tries to validate getting JG.

Because there are other offers of future firsts or Denver/Houston first round picks? We aren't the only team interested in Mr. Garoppolo.

Denver & Houston? Can you cite that? I read that Denver is going with what they have (you're saying they're willing to throw the towel in on Paxton Lynch) & Houston is going to be in a terrible situation if they're paying 2 guys starter money.

That still doesn't make his value worth #12

I'd say the market is one element in assessing his value, the other being traits he has shown on film.

I'm also questioning the narrative of "94 passes". I don't think the board needs a tremendous amount of conflict over a move they might or might not make, but Garoppolo has a ton of tape from preseason that every scout can access. Preseason isn't the same level of competition of the regular season NFL, but the quality of the players is absolutely higher than college football. His minutes against an opponent's second or third team is filled with defenders who easily made all conference or second team all conference in college, but find themselves fighting for a job in the NFL. Additionally, it's film of actual NFL pro offensive sets. We aren't watching the Air Raid and playing guessing games of how it translates to the NFL.

Here's one of his preseason games from last year:

Coupled with the fact that he routinely starts in place of Brady in the pre-season, or is in there after one offensive series. Thus he gets a lot of reps against first team defenses. Albeit more vanilla ones than usual.

I'm not saying he is or isn't. I'm speaking to negotiations and how each party values their assets.

True. Thing is that is I can make a stronger case for Watson, Tyrod, Webb, and maybe Kizer being their guy more than JG is. I'm trying to look at this from the perspective of our FO.

To me the teams that will be competing for Grap, would be 49ers, Cleveland, Jets, Bears, and the Bills, and its unlikely that they trade within the division unless the offer is very, very high, so that cuts out the Jets and Bills more than likely.

I doubt the Texans or Broncos will actually make the trade for him. They need to let the Osweiler/Savage and Siemian/Lynch battle happen. Grappolo at the moment is no better than any of those 4 guys at the moment in those battles. If O'Brian really wants Grappolo, they will have to trade Osweiler to someone to make the room for him.

I also see Cousins being the first target of the 49ers as well, so they may offer something, but I am not expecting anything greater than a 2nd round pick, so our second round pick would be higher. I am guessing whoever offers the highest within the next few weeks would be the winner.

Now sincerely I think Grappolo is better than the QBs in this draft and has some NFL experience, but at the same time I cannot merit us spending a 1st round pick on the guys in this draft to be honest. I would give up a second round pick since I feel that is were they should be in the draft.

It is also possible, but unlikely we make a trade for AJ McCarron as well. It is highly unlikely we see him traded within the division, but he was a guy i actually wanted in that draft, so I am not doubting they will at least look at acquiring him and he may be cheaper than Grappolo as well.

Lol, hold your breath.

There are untold numbers of QB's with good preseason film who never became starters in the NFL.

He has 94 passes.

What you meant to say, is there are untold numbers of fans who don't know what to look for in practice, scrimmages or preseason film. That's why they don't work on an NFL staff.

This. Jimmy is not worth the 12th pick at this point, too much unknown. We get him and pick 32, yea I'd do that rigjt now. Of course Jimmy has to sign a 4-5 year extrnsion.

With your usage of rigjt and extrnsion, I read this as you typing this while taking a dump. Since this is the Browns forum, it's appropriate. Carry on.

The same thing can be said for nfl teams as well, if scouting was 100%accurate tom brady never falls to the sixth round

Quite simply scouting whether in person, through a computer screen, or by an nfl team only means so much. So yeah its a pretty big there are only 94 passes of real results by jimmy g.

Someone challenged me to put together a list of qbs available that could be had for the 12th overall pick or less so here we go

Taylor
Cousins
Romo
Bradford
Mccarron
Foles
Colin k
Mike glennon

Hell only one player (cousins) would probably actually cost the 12th overall. Im sure the vikings would gladly take 52 for bradford, same thing for romo and the cowboys. The rest arent great players but they have a lot more experience than jimmy g, and some could be had for nothing more than the price of a contract and others for lower round draft picks.
