2017 Browns Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
A really good O-Line is a force-multiplier for any QB. Ask Dak.

Hence why I want to make the number 1 OLine in football this offseason and not worry about getting a QB in the draft lol

Available QBs without a trade right now:

Cousins - I don't see him hitting the market, easy franchise or long-term contract situation.
Romo - Wants to start for a contender.
Taylor - Not actually available, renegotiating with Buffalo but technically under contract.
Kaepernick - Likely a bridge to nowhere since he has failed in a regular pro style offense.
Glennon - Best bridge QB out there, might be a top choice to play multiple years elsewhere.
Fitzpatrick - His arm looked terrible last year.
Hoyer - More likely to be the bridge for SF or Chicago, where he has better connections.

Almost went in for the like, until I read about Glennon. Just don't see it. Maybe Derek Anderson scarred me into not wanting hard-throwing oafs.

Where did you read that Tyrod Taylor is renegotiating? I thought he wasn't willing to, but the Bills are still leaning towards keeping him.

'Real possibility' Tyrod Taylor open to altered contract

When the Bills fired Tyrod Taylor's biggest booster in the building and benched the quarterback for the season finale, it was natural to assume both parties would welcome a clean break in 2017.

Looming over the next month is Taylor's weighty $30.75 million contract option, which must be exercised by March 11.

Will the team's brass ultimately decide to double-down on Taylor at that rate, ask him to restructure the deal or risk going all-in on a potential Tony Romo trade?

Although Taylor hasn't ruled out a slightly altered contract, he is unwilling to accept any restructure that would reduce his pay, according to Vic Carucci of The Buffalo News.

Here's where it gets tricky.

Appearing on Friday's edition of Up to the Minute Live, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport echoed Carucci's report but added that there is a "very real possibility" Taylor will be amenable to altering his salary-cap number as long as it doesn't involve a pay cut...

...Click on the link for the full article, but multiple articles have said the same in the past two weeks. All this for a QB who everyone agrees struggles to make throws to the middle of the field and misses seeing all the progressions from the pocket.

I think it's amusing we shit on Tyrod Taylor for his shortcomings, yet he's already proven to be a league average QB.

Sure he doesn't read the field like a Manning, but he's a great downfield passer that can extend plays with legs. There's no projection there; he's done it for two straight years at a high level- and he did it last season while rarely having his only viable WR, Sammy Watkins, healthy.

Going off DVOA, in the 2 years (2013, 2014) preceding Taylor starting Buffalo had the league's 25th and 26th ranked offense.

After inserting Taylor as the starter Buffalo has finished as a top-10 offense in both 2015 and 2016.

I just don't see the debate here; if Buffalo is stupid enough to let him walk he should be the clear #1 option for this team. It costs us nothing but cap space, and keeps our treasure trove of draft picks intact.

Who do they have as the Browns starting QB? I am just curious lol

Cleveland Browns Projected 2017 starter: Jimmy Garoppolo

The Browns are the team with the most ammo to make a deal with the New England Patriots to get Garoppolo, as noted here. Belichick showed he could deal with the Browns, getting a third-round compensatory pick for linebacker Jamie Collins, who signed a big extension last month. The Browns might have to use the No. 12 overall pick if bidding gets too hot, but they can't let Garoppolo slip away if they think he's their long-term quarterback answer.

Nobody has a clue about this. Every take is operating under the assumption that JG is and has to be our number one option. There's nothing this FO has done or said in the last year to make us believe that. Why would anyone even assume that JG is their top option? What are they basing this on?

Forest for the trees here, Cosmo. If the Browns miss out elsewhere waiting for Taylor and the Bills to finish negotiating, IN HOPES they can't come to an agreement, the pickings will be very slim. All that for a guy who has decent numbers because he is quick to run instead of make open throws.

Taylor isn't a UFA, yet a few people have been discussing him like he is one. That's a major issue.

We'll know Taylor's future on March 11, when his $27 million option bonus is due. That's two days after free agency starts, but I think we're in agreement the pickings are already slim- a couple days isn't going to change that.

Maybe other teams are beating down the doors at midnight for the few mediocre UFA QBs like Glennon and Foles, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Because he's the best option. It's that simple.

What makes a 3 year backup QB the best option to be a teams FQB going forward?

I think most everyone would agree that what he's put on tape is better than anything out there this off-season, and shows flashes of FQB already.

You're in the minority here. Your hate for Jimmy G beginning to really shine through.
