2017 Browns Regular Season

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The idea won't be to just make a guy, or guys, rich. They need to find the guy, or guys, who will provide relentless effort on a potentially bad team and pay HIM.

TL;DR - I agree. Target people that will bust ass on a bad/up and coming team but we also need to add talent from players coming off their rookie deals. We can offer the most.

....

You can have AZ's grit/moxie all damn day, but you also need to add talent. Otherwise that grit or relentless effort will get you banned and make you sloppy. Now does that mean adding a fuckstick like JuJu or Burfict? No. But we need to target high character guys looking for a payday - specifically targeting talented guys coming off of their rookie deals.

With Alshon off the board now, we need to go in hard on either ARob, Landry, Adams (please that would be awesome), or Marquise Lee. Shit, even Watkins for a reasonable amount of $. That would greatly help our WR core with at least someone with experience that hasn't been banned for all of his career.

Regarding RB's - Bell will go back to PITT. Let that pipe dream rust away. But targeting Dion Lewis or Carlos Hyde would immediately help out our RB situation and most likely steer our FO away from drafting a RB w/1 or HOU pick and grab Guice/Jones/Love in the 2nd (if Guice falls) or later.

We are in a damn good situation once we get Hue outta here with our rookies playing nice (besides Kizer most of the time) and an ass ton of cap space.

Pray for Rosen/Minkah and then go from there. We have tons of picks to move around, as well. Let's go ahead and say our yearly motto talking about the draft, "We can't fuck this up."

LeVeon Bell wants PIT to make him not only the highest paid RB in the league but one of the highest paid players. He wants receiver money and he warrants it. I don't think they are gonna give it to him. We should.

With roughly $110 million in cap room, I say blow the next best offer out of the water by $3-4 million/year. I suggest the same for Kirk Cousins.

It's the only way to get them here.

Front load the contracts heavily so when the '17 and '18 draft picks are due for new deals, this years FA class is easy to dispose of if we desire near the end of the deal.

Yup and Bell would sign that deal in a heartbeat. PITT ain't about that overpaying life. They want Bell at their price. It's such a no brainer for us to get him with all of our cap space available, filling a need, and probably most importantly weakening a divisional opponent. They are a way worse team without Bell.

Leveon Bell coming home 2018

Josh Gordon can roll out the blunts for him

Does anyone know how interior run blocking has graded out this season?

Mike Thomas is a very nice player, but he obviously was drafted into one of the best possible situations a young WR could ever find himself in.

He has a Hall of Fame QB who's greatest attributes are reading defenses and accuracy AND he gets to play at least 9 games a year (all home games + the Falcons road game) indoors on fast climate controlled turf? Sounds like a recipe for success if I've ever heard one.

Brees' completion percentage the last two years is over 70% :chuckle:

I am a huge Brees fan Saints fan, and I will say they aren't passing as much in the past and Thomas looks very good. I am not saying Coleman is a bust, but clearly Thomas is the better receiver to me.

I know we wanted speed, thus coleman, but i am a huge fan of big possession type receivers.

Get Hyde.

Get Arob.

Draft Rosen.

Draft a stud DT.

Draft a stud CB.

Spend on secondary.

Make it so.

I think ideally you want at least one smaller speed freak and one bigger possession guy. Kind of like Houston has Hopkins and Fuller.

The Browns kind of ended up with two speed specimens now that Gordon is back, although Gordon is obviously quite a bit taller than Coleman. He's not really a possession type, though, since route running has never really been his strength.

If Gordon can keep it together, though, we don't really need another star receiver. I'd think about targeting Jordan Matthews. He's a 6'3" slot receiver who would be a perfect fit with Gordon and Coleman. He had a rough year this season, but I think he's a free agent this spring. Not sure if he'd come here, but he's exactly the type of guy we could use.

Decent.

Tretter isn't the best in run-block, but is solid in pass-block situations and is the 13th ranked center by PFF (68.5 run block, 72.8 pass block, 71.3 overall). Bitonio has been fantatic all-around as the 5th best guard in the NFL (79 run block, 89.2 pass block, 85.9 overall). Zeitler has been more-than-solid also as the 13th best guard in the NFL (76.7 run block, 83.9 pass block, 81.1 overall).

The tackles have been another story... As a "standard" we'll use Joe Thomas.. The 2nd best tackle on PFF with solid numbers all-over (75.8 run block, 88.8 pass block, 86.4 overall).

Spencer Drango: 45.7 run block, 41.9 pass block, 44 overall. Back-up at best without further improvement.
Shon Coleman: 76.1 run block, 49.3 pass block, 55.9 overall. Needs to improve in pass blocking in order to stick.

Those tackles need to improve quickly, or the Browns seriously need to consider using one of those first 5 picks on a tackle/linemen.

Here's my opinion. Corey Coleman should work primarily out of the slot. We barley put him there. That's another gripe I have with Hue. He really doesn't show a lot of creativity. He coaches like he doesn't really like his players so he has them doing things that he knows isn't always what's best for them. AB, Julio, OBJ, TY, they all work out of the slot. A lot. Those are the top 4 WR's in the NFL the last 3 years. Their teams move them around all over the field. They lineup in the backfield, in the slot, at the X, and at the Y. Corey Coleman is always on the outside. Last game against LAC was the first time I ever remember seeing him lineup in the backfield i his whole career.

I think Kenny Britt would be a really good possession receiver on this team. Line Britt and Gordon up outside and put Coleman in the slot. Get him in space. Create mismatches. Be fucking creative. Move Gordon around. I think Corey Coleman is being misused and that's in large part because of Hue Jackson. Why don't we line Coleman and Duke up in the backfield like GB does with Randall Cobb? We don't even know how to use him. Hue Jackson is getting on my damn nerves.

Gordon is fast, but is not a speed receiver per sey, he is a big receiver who happens to be fast like a Julio Jones.

And I agree, but not sure you draft your speed guy in the first round. Speed guys can be found later, but I am not hating the coleman pick at this point, just not loving it.

The more that I think about it, the more I think that we should just completely overpay for Cousins. I mean sell out for him, Gregg Williams 0 blitz style. Hire whoever-the-fuck he wants for a coach, pay that man handsomely, give Cousins the FAT upfront money, and watch us make the playoffs. We need a monumental upgrade in coaching and QB and we're going to the playoffs.

I am convinced that our OL is good enough, our WR (with JG and Coleman, along with X Johnson and TE Njoku) are for good enough, our backs kinda suck but just pick the best FA blocking RB (is Hyde a good blocker) and roll with it.

This defense is improving, still young and full of mistakes, but will continue to get better. It's hard to tell how good they are when we get down and the other team just has to run the ball so we know what's coming and magically we are a good run defense...

We still would have the draft capital to address whatever you smarts think team needs are. I opt for secondary and secondary, moving Peppers up near the LOS, where I would play him as a cover linebacker, then I am getting Minkah and Ward.

Cousins is a proven low-risk player from an on and off the field standpoint, and he's playing with NOTHING right now in Washington, besides Doctson, given that their team is so injured. Their OL is swiss cheese.

WTF is a speed receiver if Gordon runs a 4.35? What you mean is a speed guy that isn't that good, meaning he won't need to be drafted that high. That amounts to a guy like Ricardo (4.43) Louis. Coleman also ran a 4.37.

We are plenty fast enough. We need a guy to get them the ball and a coach to make them better.

People said I was crazy when i said we should offer our second round pick for Cousins when Kyle Shanahan was our coordinator...

We offered a fourth...
