2017 Cleveland Browns Defense

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Nope.

Some studs on the outside though.

Malik Jefferson from Texas , Jack Cichy from Wisky
Thoughts on Jerome Baker? A bit small for ML, but love the traits

Considering they literally just gave Collins AND Kirksey hefty new contracts, I can't imagine linebacker is high on the priority list for at least the foreseeable future.

I'd be surprised if they drafted one in 2018 barring significant injury issues or a hugely unexpected drop in quality from one of the two existing starters.

Any stud MLBs coming out in 2018?

A Luke Kuechly type?
If we draft a MLB in the first next year after passing on Reuben Foster twice I will burrow night and day using only my hands and live the rest of my life underground

He'll never be a middle. But I love his athleticism and potential as a WLB for someone after two more years at OSU.

Seattle is probably watching him closely, he's a perfect fit in their scheme.

The Browns gave away both of their 2014 first rounders for absolutely nothing, and used a 3rd rounder to replace one ofc them while not even bothering about their other. All you pointed out is that the Browns somehow doubled down n the Jets.
Incorrect. Not sure why would want to blame the regime for Farmer's fuck ups though.

TBD. As it stands nobody outside of Kirk or Collins have done a damn thing in the NFL, so depth could be a concern (and currently is, IMO) unless, Alexander, Schobert, etc step up.

I should have been more specific. I would be surprised if Browns use any early draft capital (top three rounds) on a linebacker. The need/value/return on investment just isn't there.

A huge reason why the "pick Reuben Foster at 12/33/wherever" crowd was so ridiculous.

I don't disagree that the depth behind the top two guys isn't great, but you address depth later in the draft and cheaply in free agency.

....because it has literally nothing to do with this trade or this regime.

If he has a good year this year, I think he turns pro. I think the odds are high.

100% agree for the Browns' situation, but somewhat in general. Linebackers for the 4-3 are much like running backs in terms of supply and demand.

You can get a very solid 'backer in the 3rd, just like you can with running backs.

Only a select handful of the elite 3-down linebackers go 1st round, but that doesn't mean there aren't impact starters to be found later.

Looking around at the best defenses in the NFL, there's a lot of "linebackers" who play like strong safeties. They are smaller than the linebackers of the 1990s and 2000s, but they are fast, cover fairly well, and can blitz. The key is having blockers occupying the defensive interior and edge to allow them to play in space, and I believe the Browns drafted those type of linemen the past three years.

If we have the number one pick and the best player is a Linebacker, just like Garrett was this year, then they will take him probably type of deal, but for the next couple seasons unless that scenario happens, LB isn't a true need, but at the same time day two and three if the best player available is a LB they won't hesitate to take him.

From what I can tell of this regime, they had specific guys in mind at each spot, and if they were available they went and got them. Like if Foster made it to 52, they may have drafted him just because he was the best player on their board, just like them takin a chance on Brantley in the 6th round this season so a LB is never going to be out of the question, but if the position of need is the same grade as the LB then it won't be the LB. They still may trade down for the position of need just to acquire more picks as well since this FO isn't opposed to that type of deal. They don't do things the conventional way and aren't afraid to play chess on draft day to go get the guy they want whether or not it's up or down.

Also if someone says my way of thinking is wrong, then look at the fact I had them trading down from 12 and trading up from 33. I may not explain it the best, but I have a good grasp on the moves they like to make in the draft, I just have no way to know their board on which player they really want.
