2017 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What kind of a contract do you think we'd offer him?

Think he is going to get tossed too much money for us to re-sign him. Big reason I was all for going after Encarnacion was Santana's pending free agency and the high likelihood of him walking, so having an established middle of the order bat locked up next year was big for me.

Switch hitter with pop who gets on base at a high rate is going to get paid a lot by someone, probably in the AL too.

Can see him getting something similar to Encarnacion's deal, ~20 million AAV.

Mildly irrelevant- he wants to test the market, which means highest bidder. He already gave the Tribe a hometown discount once already. If the market is for some reason sluggish like it was for Encarnacion, then maybe they come up with something- but have to wait and see.

Will the Indians finally give up on Carlos Santana?

Unless Santana decides he wants to stay here and takes a pay cut we are not keeping him after this season. Now I cannot tell ya who will replace him in the lineup/on the roster, could be a stop gap type of signing (Aka what we did with Napoli last season) or converting someone over to 1B. Our top 1B prospect is Bobby Bradley who likely will finish 2017 in AA, so we may look at other options, but Santana will be a main guy for us in 2017, whether he bats first or behind EE he will need another solid season for us.

That question is a joke...

I wouldn't doubt that part of the club's reasoning in signing Encarnacion to the deal they did was because they expect Santana to walk. Encarnacion is technically the vet replacement for him for 2018. Which is pretty smart, I think, you get Encarnacion at a 'reduced' rate, you know you have him locked up, and you get a few draft picks. 1b then becomes one of the lower cost positions, filled by a youngster like Bobby Bradley or filins. Or it becomes a landing spot for Brantley. I just can't see Santana retained after the Encarnacion signing.

If Tampa were to be open to moving Kevin Kiermaier in the right deal after trading for Mallox Smith and signing Colby Rasmus, would any of you be opposed to the Tribe moving Mejia for him?

Oh man that is a tough question, since it would make sense for both teams in short terms since Kiermaier is a Gold Glove CF but he does lack a bit of hitting. He isn't going to be a free agent until 2021 so he is a guy who the Indians would trade for. I would say can we get a deal done without moving Meija, Zimmer, but deal from our surplus of young Starters. I know pitching we can never have enough of, but the depth in our organization is in the middle infield and Starting pitchers.

Ideally, my money the deal would have to be around like Kaminsky/Morimando, Allen and someone else (Might have to part with Aiken) Hopefully we could avoid using Meija in a trade since he would be replacing either Gomes or Perez in a few years. I mean it wouldn't be the worst loss, but we should avoid using Meija in any trade since I feel worst case scenario is like Carlos Santana type of player in the pros, who even though isn't the best liked of a guy, is a solid enough player worst case scenario for us to make sure we keep Meija.

"Hang up the phone never speak to the Rays organization again" opposed

No offense, but referring to Carlos Santana as "solid enough" and the worst case scenario for a really dissimilar prospect is pretty laughable.

Yeah...that is an awful comparison, Santana and Mejia.

Mejia has multiple Gold Glove talent from the C spot. Santana was a much higher ceiling offensively as a prospect, but you knew he wouldn't last at the C spot.

Yeah and Catchers are kind of a need in the MLB to have one of the best prospects at the position makes no sense to trade unless it is a home run package.
