2017 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Have to imagine we see Yandy Diaz soon. He doesn't have much left to prove at the AAA level. Not sure where he plays, though.

I guess it depends how close to a finished product they think he is. If he still has room to develop, they'll probably want him playing every day, which isn't happening in Cleveland. On the flip side, they could employ him in Michael Martinez's role. Not a ton of PT available in that role, only 1-2 starts/week, but he'd probably prove to be useful for us.

He'll probably start off in the role they had Jose playing at the beginning of this year.

That role doesn't amount to as many AB's when Brantley is healthy, Guyer has been added, and you have a full-time 3B.

Jose was in a fortunate position at the beginning of the year to get a ton of AB's due to OF platoons, and Uribe's ineptitude at the plate.

Not to mention that Jose is a capable defender at 3b ss and 2b... Diaz isn't.

Diaz shouldn't have much of a problem at 2B/3B, that's where the large majority of his professional experience is minus some time in the OF this year. But yeah, I don't think SS is in his repertoire.

Erik Gonzalez might be a better option for that utility spot given his ability to play all around the infield.

Remember when this was the narrative from Brantley and the Indians last winter? I do.

The Indians, although it isn't the worst thing in the world, are extremely misleading with their timetables, particularly in his situation.

Yeah, I remember...and I remember him supposedly "being out until the summer" due to his shoulder, but his shoulder was healthy enough to go in Spring Training...sucks that he developed another problem in his biceps, most likely from trying to rush back ASAP, but that's not going to be an issue with this one.

We're half a year out from Spring Training...little ridiculous to start saying a guy is "going to miss significant time" at this point...

I'm glad Brantley felt the need to put that fire out. Heyman is usually good.

If guys like Napoli and Santana can repeat this season next year and you pencil in Brantley for Rajai, and Zimmer in the summer, you factor in Miller for a full year I don't see why this team can't win 100 games. Next year will be better than this year and we all know how fun this season was.

Napoli is a must re-sign. Dolans better bring him back, Napoli may ask for money but he seems like a man that will make it work, but also deserves money for his contributions. It'll be very bad if we didn't bring back the Party to either finish business or defend it.

We just need a great bill of health on our side for once. Injuries happen regardless, we just need those minor ones instead of major gut wrenching ones.

What is the order of this ball cub in July?

Santana DH
Kipnis 2B
Lindor SS
Napoli 1B
Brantley LF
Ramirez 3B
Zimmer RF/CF
Naquin CF/RF
Gomes/Perez C

I'm to lazy to look up the contracts of Crisp, Guyer, Abe, and Chiz, but these guys will be gone or expendable. Somebody mentioned Chiz may be traded and I agree, but what would be a need in return? A young minor leaguer, I assume. Bullpen arm?

Part of me wants to bring Rajai back and play him against lefties. His speed is a very valuable asset to the bench.

I'm not counting on Naquin to be an every day player next year.

We'll definitely need a guy like Davis who can hit lefties for him, and be ready to step in if he falters. Luckily we'll have Guyer back, but we'll probably need to platoon Zimmer as well whenever he comes up.

Abe is under contract, but I'm sure he has options if we can't get him into the OF rotation.

If Napoli gets offers for more than 2 years, we shouldn't try to match that. If it's 2 years or even 1, I'd actually be fairly confident in the Indians bringing him back.

Going into each season, every team has the ability to win or lose 100 games. It's really just a matter of being lucky. The Cubs have a historically low BABIP against that has helped them get to triple digits this year. We'll have 90+ win talent again, but luck can swing that number in either direction.
