2017 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
More like WLOLverines, amirite?

Next week should be fun. Crazy to think that JT will be a serious heisman candidate with a win.

What a trash weekend of college football. Can't survive without the Buckeyes, I guess.

Yeah, the two marquee night games were a disaster. I had hoped USC and the Wolves would at least show up. I did find the Oklahoma K State game to be pretty entertaining though

Wazzu loses. Washington only 1 loss team left in Pac12. Still have to play Oregon, Stanford, Utah and Wazzu, plus P12 title game.

I think you have to look at potential paths to the playoffs and you sort of assume teams winning out (prolly wont happen)....

1) SEC has a pretty obvious path with Alabama getting in. I personally dont feel a 1 loss Georgia not conference champ should get in over another power 5 champ. If Georgia would upset Alabama in the SEC that would be trouble because Bama could steal a spot

2) Notre Dame is a lock if they win out, no questions asked in my book.

3) ACC still has a path because Clemson and Miami could easily have good resumes by the end of the season.

4) I still think the Big10 has the edge right now over the big 12 though Ohio State would not get in if Oklahoma finishes 12-1.

I think the pac 12 is elminated from playoff contention at this point unless crazy stuff happens which will prolly happen anyways.

1)Alabama
2)Georgia
3)Wisconsin
4)Ohio State

will probably be the rankings in the first release but its stupid because these teams will settle things on the field at some-point anyways...

1)Bama/Georgia
2)OSU/Wisconsin (Oklahoma over 1 loss OSU, undefeated Wisc over 1 lost Oklahoma)
3) Notre Dame
4) Clemson/Miami

Khalil Tate might be the best CFB ever

It is always fun to speculate. But, frankly, the odds of OSU being left out at 12-1 are remote. You've set out a couple scenarios with a 1 loss ND or Bama losing a close game to Georgia in the SEC championship. Oklahoma could gum up the works as well. The odds of all of that happening though seems pretty remote to me. As an OSU fan, I will just enjoy watching them play and feel great about their chances if they win out on the field

Yeah, like we've been saying. There will be at least one 2+ loss power 5 champ (Pac 12). Maybe even two (Big 12).

Things are going to get real interesting. OSU has nothing to worry about though.

Penn State fans are already predicting a conspiracy to keep them out of the playoff as a 11-1 team, even though OSU got in at 11-1 last year.

Very big difference. OSU beat 3 top 10 teams last year, 2 on the road. Their 4th best win was a home shellacking of Nebraska, who was ranked at the time, but by the end of the year was more of a fringe top 25 team.

PSU's best win is going to be vs MSU or Michigan. MSU still has to play PSU and OSU, UM still has Wisconsin and OSU. Very possible both lose 4 games and neither are ranked come years end. Those wins are pretty comparable to Nebraska last year.

So if a PSU fan brings up OSU getting in at 11-1, kindly remind them their best win this year would be, AT BEST, OSU's 4th best win last year. An 11-1 PSU really has more in common with 2015 OSU than 2016 OSU.

My best guess at the first CFP ranking (rankings in the Notable Remaining Games are AP):

1. Alabama (8-0); SEC -- Notable Remaining Games: vs. 19 LSU, @ 21 Miss St, @ 16 Auburn
2. Georgia (8-0); SEC -- Notable Remaining Games: @ 16 Auburn
3. Notre Dame (7-1); IND -- Losses (Georgia); Notable Remaining Games: @ 9 Miami, @ 18 Stanford
4. Ohio State (7-1); B10 -- Losses (Oklahoma); Notable Remaining Games: vs. 24 Mich State, @ Michigan
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Wisconsin (8-0); B10 -- Notable Remaining Games: vs. Michigan
6. Penn State (7-1); B10 -- Losses (Ohio State); Notable Remaining Games: @ 24 Mich State
7. Clemson (7-1); ACC -- Losses (Syracuse); Notable Remaining Games: @ 20 NC State
8. Miami FL (7-0); ACC -- Notable Remaining Games: vs. 13 Virginia Tech, vs. 5 Notre Dame
9. Oklahoma (7-1); B12 -- Losses (Iowa State); Notable Remaining Games: @ 11 Oklahoma State, vs. 10 TCU

I still only think one of Bama and Georgia get in. They both play at Auburn and I feel like Georgia could fall to them. Notre Dame will get in if they win out. Winner of the B10 championship should get in. Wisconsin's resume is absolutely garbage and their only other notable game this year is Michigan. Still, an unbeaten Wisconsin that knocks off OSU/PSU in the B10 championship will get in. Clemson has the worst loss on this list. Oklahoma has an outside shot if they win out and Notre Dame takes a loss.

I think Clemson should be ahead of PSU. They have a worse loss but they've also got better wins than PSU. Wisconsin is tough to rank because of how easy their schedule has been.

I'd go

1. Alabama
2. Georgia
3. Notre Dame
4. Clemson
5. Oklahoma
6. OSU
7. Wisconsin
8. Miami

I'm going by what I think the first rankings should be and not making a prediction on what the committee will do.
