2017 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Penn State fans are already predicting a conspiracy to keep them out of the playoff as a 11-1 team, even though OSU got in at 11-1 last year.

Very big difference. OSU beat 3 top 10 teams last year, 2 on the road. Their 4th best win was a home shellacking of Nebraska, who was ranked at the time, but by the end of the year was more of a fringe top 25 team.

PSU's best win is going to be vs MSU or Michigan. MSU still has to play PSU and OSU, UM still has Wisconsin and OSU. Very possible both lose 4 games and neither are ranked come years end. Those wins are pretty comparable to Nebraska last year.

So if a PSU fan brings up OSU getting in at 11-1, kindly remind them their best win this year would be, AT BEST, OSU's 4th best win last year. An 11-1 PSU really has more in common with 2015 OSU than 2016 OSU.

Trying to reason with a PSU fan is a waste of time. Just seem to be lower IQ than other fans.

As a whole, Florida Gator fans are the worst I've ever come across. They make the hilljacks of central Pennsylvania seem like Nobel Laureates by comparison.

Nothing is worse than fans who worship a man that enabled a child rapist for decades. Fans who go as far as to discount/discredit the victims of said rape.

Good point. Hadn't thought about it from that angle.

Yeah. There's the tinfoil hats and the annoying angle with them too, but at the end of the day, what I said is more than enough.

I've never really thought they were dumb. Quite the opposite. You need strong mental gymnastics to justify supporting a child rape enabler.

My best guess at the first CFP ranking (rankings in the Notable Remaining Games are AP):

1. Alabama (8-0); SEC -- Notable Remaining Games: vs. 19 LSU, @ 21 Miss St, @ 16 Auburn
2. Georgia (8-0); SEC -- Notable Remaining Games: @ 16 Auburn
3. Notre Dame (7-1); IND -- Losses (Georgia); Notable Remaining Games: @ 9 Miami, @ 18 Stanford
4. Ohio State (7-1); B10 -- Losses (Oklahoma); Notable Remaining Games: vs. 24 Mich State, @ Michigan
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Wisconsin (8-0); B10 -- Notable Remaining Games: vs. Michigan
6. Penn State (7-1); B10 -- Losses (Ohio State); Notable Remaining Games: @ 24 Mich State
7. Clemson (7-1); ACC -- Losses (Syracuse); Notable Remaining Games: @ 20 NC State
8. Miami FL (7-0); ACC -- Notable Remaining Games: vs. 13 Virginia Tech, vs. 5 Notre Dame
9. Oklahoma (7-1); B12 -- Losses (Iowa State); Notable Remaining Games: @ 11 Oklahoma State, vs. 10 TCU

I still only think one of Bama and Georgia get in. They both play at Auburn and I feel like Georgia could fall to them. Notre Dame will get in if they win out. Winner of the B10 championship should get in. Wisconsin's resume is absolutely garbage and their only other notable game this year is Michigan. Still, an unbeaten Wisconsin that knocks off OSU/PSU in the B10 championship will get in. Clemson has the worst loss on this list. Oklahoma has an outside shot if they win out and Notre Dame takes a loss.

Thanks for this chart - this is excellent...There's really only one question that's important: Do we or do we not control our own destiny? I think (and kinda hope) Wisconsin is ahead of us, which is an easy one for the committee b/c it doesn't really make the committee face a difficult decision if we end up playing each other. We do have a home loss by 2 TDs after all. Let's not forget that... I agree that Alabama and Georgia are not certain to be undefeated by the SEC CG, very well said. Miami is pretty well fucked, playing Clemson and Notre Dame (and I don't think Miami is that good). Notre Dame looks top 4 to me - I think they finish out the season w/ 1 loss and end up top 2.

I think Clemson is a top 4 team, and I really hope they don't sneak in. I think that having the worst loss is enough to keep them out at this point, thankfully. I also think OSU is a top 4 team - like even though we squeaked by PSU, even when we were down 11 at the half and down even more in Q3, we were the better team. We can and will get EVEN BETTER without so many silly mistakes. Part was nerve, part was knuckleheaded, but man, I'd say we played 80% of the game at a 3 out of 10. That's what's great about this year: if we can tighten it up and get better, we have a shot at winning it all.

I think if we continue to win and look good doing it, we should be ok. Have to hope that MSU and/or UM are a top 25 team when we play them. Also have to hope Wiscy doesn't stumble down the stretch. We want the B10 Championship to be a top ten matchup.

The one thing that we really don't have working for us compared to past years is the OSU name. Bama, Georgia, and ND have equally impressive fan bases with equally impressive histories. We won't just get in on our tradition alone. We need to continue to improve upon our weaknesses down the stretch.

I'd be shocked if a 1 loss non SEC Champ, even if it's Bama, gets in over a 1 loss Power 5 conference champ. Definitely not over a 12-1 OSU.

Now, if we get 2 loss champs in 2 of of the Power 5 conferences I absolutely could see 2 from the same conference get in.

The committee just set themselves up for two SEC teams with Georgia placed at #1. After a loss, a #1 team usually only drops an average of 4 spots to #4.

Wish Georgia would've been #2 and Notre Dame/Clemson would've started lower.

Only thing I expected tonight was for 1 loss teams to be ahead of Wisky/Miami.

Anything else was possible. You could put those 1 loss teams from 3-6 in any order and find a way to justify it.

Both winning out, we'd jump Oklahoma. Clemson, I see nothing to support putting them at 4 besides name recognition from last year. ND has a few tough games left so if they win out they walk in. This is setting up to make the final week about keeping the SEC loser in or putting us at #4.

I disagree with the Golden Domers at 3. Even without Bryant, Clemson lost to Syracuse. Let them prove their way back.

It's difficult.

When you ask who the best four teams in the country are, Ohio State is one of those right now. Their young receivers without much experience have improved. JT is growing confidence in the new offense. Also, the young OSU secondary and linebacking crews have grown so much since the 2nd game of the year. Many of them were playing their first significant D1 snaps. Simply, they've grown up.

Oklahoma is hurting us really bad right now. They are ranked high enough with one loss that the committee doesn't want to scoot us ahead of them. However, Oklahoma isn't good enough to be in the top 4. Thus, we get stuck at 6 behind them out of principle because of the Oklahoma loss. It's not ND vs OSU vs Clemson right now.

We need Oklahoma to lose so they can be removed from the discussion and OSU/Clemson/Notre Dame can be discussed on the level without OSU carrying that Oklahoma anchor.
