2017 NBA Playoffs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The problem with no max salary is LeBron would take up approximately 99% of the salary cap.

Unless you’re saying abolish the salary cap as well.

Go ahead and keep the salary cap, and if a player commands 99% of the salary cap, then that's the way it is.

If the problem you're trying to fix is competitive imbalance, then I don't see how this is a problem.

Kawhi said he wanted to play so hes obviously good enough to play.
.

In what world does a player saying they are good to go mean they are "obviously" good to go?

I actually am really pleased with Game 3. It was clear SA had no real chance to beat them unless some unexpeted Spurs Player had a suprise 40-50 Point Game.

But in the first half there where moments where you could see.. again.. that GSW does not look good if they play a Team that is well diciplined(low turnovers especially compared to their carelesness)is playing great together and plays good defense. The Spurs in the end lacked the one defender that could slow down KD(Kahwi) and their best two 1v1 Scorers that could have created offense(Parker and Kahwi).
But in the first half there where clearly moments where you can easilly see how you beat GSW and it pretty much mirrors what i said all year:

-Limit your own mistakes(especially live turnovers) that eliminates their Transition Offense wich is a big Part of their Offense and its how they build Momentum.

-Attack the Rim relentlessly because Javale is not playable for 30+ Minutes and they have no other real "Big" Rim Protector. Green and KD are decent but if you are a great driver(Manu especially in this Game) you will still get pretty easy baskets or Free Throws.

-Outrebound them because when it really counts they are not a great Rebounding Team, especially when facing a Really Big Time Rebounding Front Court

-Play diciplined good defense and try to bait them into turnovers and bad shots because if you already taken away their Transition Game they can be frustrated because nothing comes easy

-Get Physical and Agressive.. they dont really like that. They like a "Clean" Game .. (The Spurs did not do this as much.. huge advantage to us)

-Run them of the 3pt Line.. make them create other offense as much as possible. Dont let them even start a 3pt Bombardment.

We can do all this.. we can also defend Curry better than the Spurs did. Also KD wont be as effecient against us propably. We can do most of those things even better than the Spurs and we are healthy and we have Lebron.

They are talented as hell and will be not easilly defeated... but they are really undiciplined and have weaknesses we are tailor build to exploit.

Rest your players in the regular season so you can rest your players in the playoffs.

/nba

Obviously this isnt working.

I honestly don't know why -some- superstars don't forego their nba salary completely.

Lebron has a 500,000,000$ (half a Billion. With a B) endorsement contract with his shoe manufacturer. He earns an order of magnitude more from them than from the cavaliers.

He could drop his NBA salary down to 1$/yr and still have more money that he could spend. And it would allow the team to go after anyone they wanted.

There are several NBA players in that position (though not quite as much as Lebron's endorsement contracts)

Now Lonzo Ball comes along and demands endorsement contracts even higher (3 billion? c'mon) - but even if he only gets 1 billion (which isnt unlikely, eventually, just not yet) even a 30 million/year contract from the NBA is small potatoes comparatively.

And if a player forgoes their salary, and his team acquires the best free agents with their cap room, and that team wins more titles, the superstar player's endorsement value goes up even more than their salary that they gave up.

Just rambling....

I think the player's union would have some issues with guys doing that. I thought LeBron's Nike contract was $1B, but never seen anything official (your mention is the first time I've seen $500M).

At first I thought so too, but if something like that caused role players and the entire rest of rosters to be paid more, why would the players union have issues with it? They benefit from it.

You are probably right. I read 500 million at some point. But the details arent released - his agent indicates/hints it is more than 1 Billion total. It is a lifetime contract, so it is probably X per year for as long as he lives, so the final amount isnt really calculable (unless you know when he's going to die) - but it is in excess of 30 million/year - for the rest of his life, guaranteed. If he lives at least another 34 years or so, that's at least billion I guess. (Must be nice!)

(I'm trying to save up another $500 so I can file my resident visa paperwork here in new zealand, lol)

Spurs don't care they are down 3-0 :chuckle:.
