2017 Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Indians being interested in JD is odd though.

When healthy the hitters are set in stone. Don't know who's spot JD takes to be honest, I'd take JD over Santana though :chuckle: and we can DH Brantley.

But that's water under a bridge now, just interesting Tribe had interest.

The JD Martinez thing is so strange to me. Starting with the fact its inter-division. Out of curiosity I wanted to see our trade history with Detroit.

Here are all of the Indians-Tigers trades since 1999:
7/28/10 Receive Geovanni Soto for Jhonny Peralta and Cash
7/1/05 Receive PTBNL for Steve Green (???? lol)
3/26/04 Receive Brent Abernathy for cash
3/29/03 Receive PTBNL for AJ Hinch - interesting
12/16/02 Receive cash for Travis Chapman

Anyway, I don't know what in the world we would have given up for JD Martinez. I'd guess they were really buying low, since it sounds like there wasn't that much interest - and the relatively weak haul Detroit got back. Not sure if it's been reported, but I'd guess Naquin may have gotten moved in that scenario as the main piece.

I have no idea why people think Stanton has even a 1% chance of ending up on the Indians. Especially with the Marlins entire selling of the team fiasco. I really wonder how much trading Stanton would affect the franchise's value. Either way, I don't see any scenario he ends up in Cleveland.

I expect the Indians to go after the best SP they can get without giving up Mejia. To me he's almost off limits. I'd rather just bank on one of Salazar/Bauer/Tomlin to figure things out before playoffs and roll with a 3 man rotation than give up Mejia.

The Indians are 15th in runs scored. They need help offensively. JD Martinez would do that. Santana is the most obvious of the replaceables- you put Lonnie or JD there. Makes sense IMO. Also remember- the DBacks farm system is awful. They didn't really give up much. JD may have been a more cost effective option as they called around.

Signing Edwin Encarnacion to the biggest deal in franchise history wasn't a move for this year?

I see that as move for our window from 2017-2020.

Trading 2 of your top 3 prospects at the deadline, like we did last year (until Lucroy vetoed) was an all in move.

Nunez hitting .297, OBP .322

Missed about a month from mid-June to the All Star break. Pinch hit today after experiencing hamstring tightness last night.

Hitting above .290 vs LHP and RHP this year; has hit over .290 vs. RHP for 3 straight years now.

Below average defender. I would think Jose would move to 2B if he were to come here for as long as Kipnis is out; not sure though

17 steals, T10th in MLB with our old friend Rajai Davis

Free agent at the end of the year, likely wouldn't cost much.

Isn't it kind of racist to say that Indians are scouting people?

Can Nunez replace Shaw? If not he at least can replace Erik Gonzalez. Makes me think they expect Jason Kipnis to be out for longer than they are letting on.

I'm not counting on Kipnis at all this season. Dude never had a spring training and got thrown in the fire only to burn. Any addition like this could mean a lot.

Should they bench him?

Like to agree, Winner to disagree

Everyone is going to love this Nunez stat:

With RISP: 24-58 (.414 / .429 / .894) for 21 RBI

Also, 23 multi-hit games this year in 69 games played, including 5 3+ hit games

Could really jump start a lineup that is putting together a ton of scoring opportunities but coming up well short

It's a lazy answer, but for the right price, definitely.

Nunez is a solid ballplayer. Not an electric defender, but he was an all-star last year and stole 40 bases. With Rajai gone, we really could use a solid basestealer (I know guys like Zimmer, Brantley, and J-Ram aren't bad).

Batting a combined .288 over the last three seasons (2015-17) and is pretty versatile in the field (can play 3B, SS, OF).

If Kipnis is out for an extended period, or just continues his struggles, I'd like slotting Nunez in at third and moving J-Ram over to 2B.
