2018 Buckeyes Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Taking a power-spread system, and forcing them to work from under center, getting new timing down, teaching them the proper spacing, teaching Haskins the proper footwork from center to the RB, working with the O-line to make sure they don't trip the QB on their steps immediately out of the snap, getting the center comfortable with snapping to Haskins while also needing to get leverage on the Nose Tackle and drive block...........all of that shit. It sounds so simple to say, lets go to a "jumbo set" put Haskins under center and run a QB sneak.....it's really not that easy or simplistic.
LOL. Nobody is saying they should overhaul the offensive system, dude. We are talking about receiving the snap and falling over a yard. That's it. It's not that complex. We see teams in both CFB and the NFL do it with even less mobile QBs than Haskins and it works. It isn't rocket science to snap a ball and push forward. It just isn't.

Thought it was also interesting Meyer said Wyatt Davis is getting close to playing — which means someone else is close to not playing. Prince?

So we are going to switch from the clapping system to an audible call, and expect not to take false starts based on new timing?

Teams try and do this and it often turns into a clusterfuck....stick with what you're good at.

Like I said, practice it.

Sticking with what you're good at only makes sense if you're actually good at it. We suck at 3rd or 4th and short right now.

The best thing about our offense is Haskins slinging the ball, but now on crucial downs we're gonna take him out? No, that's out thinking yourself. Plenty of teams don't can convert short yardage without having a running QB.

The New Orleans Saints have been taking Drew Brees off the field in short yardage situations and letting Taysom Hill run zone read variations. If the all time NFL passing leader can come off the field situationally, why not Haskins?

It’s situational football....period.

Putting the ball in the air on 3rd or 4th and short isn’t high percentage football. The goal is to move the chains. Nobody is saying Martell should cut significantly into Haskins PT. But on 3rd and 1, our ability to convert that 1 yard goes WAY UP with a mobile QB who forces defenses to account for the QB keep. And as stated before, it helps Dobbins and Weber 10-fold, as they won’t get all out slants and free run blitzes where they’re keyed the minute we break huddle.

It’s simple honestly. And it isn’t disrespectful to Haskins at all. We’re talking about increasing our percentages of gaining a single yard.....I don’t see why people are so anti-taking Haskins off field 3-4 times a game to increase our conversion percentages.

Historically, Urban Meyer teams are CFB leaders in 3rd and 3 or less conversions. We are struggling this year because the QB is a pocket QB.

There’s nothing wrong with taking Haskins off field in specific situations. Again, even Drew Brees comes off the field situationally this year.

I've already said I'm completely on board with that, as long as it doesn't mess up what we have with Haskins.

Basically, I just want an adjustment. It's time. What we've been doing isn't working.

Perhaps Urban is saving the Tate wrinkle for later in the season...

I also think with Tate being the main backup it’s hard to use him like this. I could see them working on a package in practice where Tate could lineup in the slot on a play as a WR, then the next play play QB, it would prevent a defense from substituting players.

Big difference is that Hill already plays some offense. So if you want him to play QB, you don't have to sub him in just for that play.

Tate would only come in to play QB. Meaning the defense would see hm sub in, and know what play is coming. Which kinda defeats the purpose.

Well right now, we are failing because the opponent knows we are handing the ball off.

With Tate, you can actually run the read option. He adds another option.

We are handing the ball up the middle into a stacked box with no QB run threat. Plenty of things we can try.

Hell, I'd try a Weber/Dobbins combo in the backfield. Or motion Campbell in the backfield to pair with one of Weber/Dobbins. Or go play action. Literally tons of simple fixes that I'd try before changing QBs.

Some other coaches use non-mobile qb's in RPO's by having a slot WR available for the quick bubble-pass.

Everyone seems on the same page about just running the RB up the gut with no other threat. Having the two additional options at least stretches the defense out for the run.

Could even put one of the RB's in the slot as the bubble option. In the screen shot, if Weber or Dobbins is the bubble option, that's a positive play 9/10 times.
