2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm just not sure I've ever seen someone so polished skill wise as Mayfield at this level. His feet are always moving. His head is always up and scanning the field and progressing through his reads, and he consistly throws a tight spiral on the money where only the receiver can get it. Every single time.

The height really shouldn't matter when you're that good at moving in the pocket and finding the throwing lanes, and Mayfield is excellent.
When the defenses at the next level are bigger, stronger, and faster... It does matter. It matters immensely.

It compromises your vision, it compromises your playbook. Shorter quarterbacks generally have lower completion percentages and more turnovers. It’s unfortunate but it’s been researched ad nauseum.

With the magnitude of this draft and multiple prospects like Rosen and possibly Darnold on the board, we can’t afford to take a risk on another undersized quarterback.

You also don't want to pass on drew Brees for Nick Foles

The guy completes 72% of his passes right now.

I'm not concerned in the slightest about his completion % at the next level. He's insanely accurate and moves to create windows for himself.

I think the concern about him being less able to create his windows at the next level due to increasingly complex blitz packages, faster defenders and larger defensive lineman is completely meritorious.

The mere citation of completion % at the college level doesn't sell me enough within itself -- especially when it comes at the expense of being in a conference that is putrid defensively on a consistent basis.

Baker does things on the field that I really like; I struggle to be confident it'll continue at that rate at the next level.

Not worried about his size in the cold. Actually might be more worried about Rosen playing in the cold as a California boy/very stiff. Mayfield is tough as nails and would be fine in the weather it's just can his hands handle the hard ass ball.

So California is a weather concern but Oklahoma wouldn't be? No offense, but this is a great example of confirmation bias. Oklahoma has weather that compares to SoCal evenly.

Trust me, I gave Kizer a little bump in scouting last year because of weather, but let's compare apples to apples when it's a crate full of apples. Cold weather QBs weren't pro caliber this year, unless you have a Northwestern or Toledo fetish...

Deffinetely good points. Which is something any of our options would have to adjust to. But don't you think Mayfield has shown to be the best at quick decisions, creating, and adjusting? While typically always looking down field? How many times have we seen him elude pressure, keep the play alive and throw a 40 yd dime.

I think when the dust settles after the combine testing, interviews, etc. Darnold ends up back at the top, "down year" or not.

Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but he doesn't seem to have any of the character/motivation concerns that Rosen has, and he doesn't have the size/gimmicky offense/douchebag issues that Mayfield does.

Above all else though, he impresses the hell out of me with his ability to move around in the pocket and extend the play... and not in a stupid, get yourself killed kind of way. More Brady/Ben mobility than a true "scrambling" QB.

A lot of the qualities Dorsey called out in his press conference as important for a QB fit Darnold... has the accuracy, has the feet in the pocket, and actually wins.

Lastly, for as much chatter as there is about him going back to school, if say, he gets a promise that he's going #1?...there's no way he's dumb enough to go back. That, and I don't buy the shit about him not wanting to come to Cleveland... I've seen that movie before (cough, Garrett).

Anyway, just my opinion. Really pumped for the OSU game for both OSU fandom and Darnold-watch.

I specifically said his hands are a concern in the cold weather, but he's tough as nails and I don't think its will affect him much.

Rosen seems like hes much softer.

If Hue stays, I think Rosen or Darnold will be the pick.

If he doesn't, I think Mayfield has a chance.

Would it help if i told you he is one of if not the most accurate passer when facing the blitz this year.

The only way we aren't taking QB1 is if Cousins is signed. Then I think we will try to trade down , but not far down. Like similar to what the 49ers did last year. Try and get some ammo from the Giants who are for sure going to take a QB.
