2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think one of the things Chubb has going for him fair or not is the gap between him and the next best player at his position is larger than anyone in the draft except for maybe Nelson. He's just by far and away the best edge rusher. With DB you can at least leave the 1st round guaranteed with one of Mika, Ward, Alexander, or Jackson. After Chubb it's a crapshoot.

Is the main reason Darnold is over Rosen because of overall potential, correct? We don’t necessarily need a rookie QB to start week 1. Therefore, going with the QB with the highest ceiling/potential who could benefit with some bench time and coaching for a year makes sense, no?
Am I missing something?

I guess, I truly don’t understand the potential argument either.

It seems the biggest issues are still perceptions of Rosen’s character and his marginal out of pocket performance.

But I don’t have any idea why Darnold’s potential as a passer would ever be higher.

What's happened is people let the media drive the discussion before they had their own opinion on these guys themselves. It's crazy because if you've watched these guys the last few years you already know what you know. Once the media narratives come in they become the standard of how people should feel about these guys. It's like how when I was watching Rosen in 2016 I don't remember thinking to myself this guy has real character concerns. Or when I was watching Lamar Jackson during his Heisman season I never even considered him being a WR. I was too busy enjoying watching him play QB. When Darnold was playing Penn State in that Rose Bowl I remember people think he's going to be really good in a few years when he goes pro. Not the very next year when he enters the draft when most though he should return to school and all of a sudden he's just the top QB? I also don't recall Saquon Barkley being a generational RB at that time even though he had a good game. I remember hearing about how baker mayfield was a great story. A walk on transfer who had to work to get where he's at. Then he was being tackled by the cops, had some character issues, won the Heisman and now he's back to being a darling.

Dear NFL Draft,

Please hurry.

Sincerely,
The Good Guys.

Thank you for this. Any idea of Rosens and Bakers stats in the same situation?

I searched, but couldn't find.

The only reason I found this one was because NDT Scouting put it in their scouting report.

Darnold from the pocket, under pressure (2017):

0 TD, 7 INT

I get the stat, but I think where Darnold thrives is when he escapes and elongates the play OUTSIDE the pocket when under pressure.

Can he throw better than Rosen? I don't think so. Jay Cutler made his name rolling out on plays. He sucks. There has to be more to Darnold than just he's kind of good when he extends the play. That's not half the battle. His footwork is not great. Rosen's is. His arm is adequate but Rosen's is simply better.

The only real thing I keep seeing people hold over Rosen with Darnold is extending the play. I'm sorry but I need more than that to pass on a guy like Rosen who checks every single box. He's a FQB in a box. He comes fully assembled. We are doubting him because he can't do just one thing better than a guy who ships in parts? I'm just not buying that.

He's okay, but can still forces throws and turns the ball over quite a bit.

It's a good quality to have. But the majority of the game should be in the pocket, and Rosen is just so much better.

My god, the draft cant come soon enough.

If you were to take the top guys from the last couple classes as rank them like Jeremiah did in terms of quality of prospect, what would your top 5 ranking look like?

The guys I'd include as 'top QB prospects' to rank would probably be all the first rounders the last few years plus this year's crop:

Winston, Mariota
Goff, Wentz, Lynch
Trubisky, Mahomes, Watson
Rosen, Darnold, Mayfield, Jackson

Top three for me:

Rosen, Goff, Mariota

Then probably Winston, Darnold.

Darnold is just...so talked down on on here, if you only read RCF you'd think he was like a C prospect. I'd really be happy with either Rosen or Darnold. My concerns with Rosen are strictly durability, not skill-based. Don't really care about the so-called "character" concerns anymore, those are clearly bullshit. But it just amuses me how Rosen is like the third or fourth QB mentioned in the media, but on here he's a slam dunk lock and Darnold an afterthought.

Not speaking for or against either one- if you put a gun to my head, I'd say take Darnold, but again, I'm happy with either. Right now I'd be shocked if they took Rosen, though.

Obviously the turnovers are everyone's biggest concern with Darnold (rightfully so). It scares the shit out of me. I know it seems the majority of "experts" have him going #1, but I keep coming back to 2 things that make me think otherwise...

1. Hue hates turnovers. All coaches do obviously. But I've never heard someone bitch about them and emphasize them killing the team so much like Hue did last year with Kizer. It seemed like Hue was basically begging his QBs to not turn it over last year.

2. Dorsey brought in Alex Smith and now Tyrod Taylor to run his teams. Both of their greatest strengths are ball security.

I just have a hard time believing that Hue (if he has any say at all anymore) and Dorsey are going to choose the guy with the most turnovers in NCAAF when their track records show just how much they value QBs that don't turn it over.

I personally believe Darnolds turnovers are a MASSIVE red flag. I think/hope the Browns will feel the same way and take Rosen.
