2018 NBA Draft - June 21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wendell seems like a good guy to pair with Love. I dunno though. He is not a quick finisher. I am wondering if he is going to get blocked gathering like someone else we know. Seems slow to me

I think the one thing I don't like about wendel is that he can't be paired with love as they will probably have the same defense issues

He doesn't defend the rim? Or you mean quicker guards will go right by?

Yeah the ability to guard on the perimeter. He might be slower footed than other bits in the draft. I'm hoping thebconbine and workouts show he has potential to improve in that area as I like his around game

Or we could, like, actually have our center stay around the basket like a normal fucking team :chuckle:

I really like your write ups, you do a really good job with these....is there anyway I can view all of these together somehow?
I'd like to go back and read up on all the possibilities we can get with the Brooklyn pick,,like Trae. I don't know how to go back and search these.

Thanks. Most of the top guys have been highly-touted prospects all season long, so those ones are pretty outdated. I'm going to have to go back and review all of them and get them up to date.

I plan on putting all of them together into a PDF e-book at some point and making it available for download somewhere. I've yet to figure all of that out, as there's still a lot of sorting out to do with what prospects are in the draft.

But I hope to have the first version of it done around the draft combine which is mid-late May.

That can be really effective. Someone should tell Lue.

This is specifically why they won't play Zizic. He can't step out to the perimeter yet. Not many teams actually play 5 out though.

What has Melton even been doing for the last year? Is there any word on him besides that he's declaring? Did he practice with the team at all or no? Are there intramural league stats/video I can look at? Probably a similar level of competition to Pac-12 play this year, so no big deal in that regard.

No he hardly practiced with USC this year pretty sure. They basically sent him home until they sorted out his whole impermissible benefits sorta thing (which didn't directly involve him). I like Melton alot. I don't think his shot comes around though.

He's an A+ defensive prospect, but something I've realized after looking at all of the prospects in the draft is that having an A+ defender at the PG spot is less valuable than a wing that's an A+ defender. That hurts Melton, as I think he's really only a standout guy at one or two positions defensively. You can negate a primary ball handler in a few ways, even without a quality defender (like just blitzing P&Rs all game long).

I made a report thing on him a couple of weeks ago, I don't know if I posted it yet but I can.

I agree 100% that it's less valuable, but the good thing about it is (unlike offensive production) it seems to translate fairly predictably to the NBA level.

Where would you pick Dejounte Murray in this draft? I kinda think he may have a coming out party against Lillard if it ends up being Spurs-Blazers in the first round...

The biggest difference is that Murray is a multi positional defender.
Murray is 6'5 with 6'10 wingspan and a 8'7 standing reach, while Melton is 6'2 with a 6'8 wingspan and a 8'2 standing reach...this is a huge difference.

Offensively, they are very different. Murray can get inside the lane and shoot over anybody with ease because of his size...I don't think Melton would be able to do that.

Defensively, I can see him very active in the passing lanes and being able to generate steals, but again, there is a considerable length difference in favour of Murray, so I don't think he would be as efficient at contesting shooters or at switching.

Murray had a bad freshman year and I really doubt he would have developed well on any other team, specifically the Cavs. Spurs have huge confidence in their developmental team and draft because of tools and upside. Cavs only chance of developing a player is if he is already well developed.

What are your thoughts?

I don't think he's remotely in play for the cavs, so this is just a thought experiment for me. I have a hard time believing that standing reach number, watching him. It's not like all, or even most, of his blocks are sneaky from-behind blocks. He's fantastic at staying super tight to the body and getting his hands up in a flash, and it seems like he gets them high enough to bother the shot even before he leaves the ground . It's hard to imagine any guard just comfortably shooting over top of this guy.

Knowing what we know now about Murray I'd have him probably late lottery at least. I think he's becoming a little overrated lately though. Really benefitting from the Spurs system. And if he was on some lesser team he'd be getting no attention. I just hate the idea of non-shooting PGs in today's NBA. He's a solid player though.

Not that there was any concern, but Bridges officially declared for the draft today.

Looks like Nets will end up in the 9-spot in the lottery in all likelihood.

Hope everyone on here likes Miles Bridges.

I've started to warm on him quite a bit. Has a solid floor in a draft without much of that, and ridiculous athletic ability that yields a fair bit of upside. I'm talking myself into it already.
