2018 NBA Draft - June 21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Carter's always been as productive as Bagley on a per-minute basis. Now that he's playing the same big minutes as Bagley that's starting to translate to some monster games. Amazing that he's pretty much the worst case scenario for BPA when we pick.

People are sleeping on Carter so bad. ESPN has him 14th right now. He literally does everything. He's the guy that reminds me most of Al Horford, not Jontay Porter.

He can do a bit of everything and he has the best shooting stroke of all the true Centers in the draft too IMO (not counting JJJ). I've not watched a ton of him closely when he defends out on the perimeter and have heard mixed reviews on that aspect of the game. If he checks out there to be able to handle different P&R coverages, then I'd consider having him ahead of Bagley even.

I have Carter #9 right now and to me there's a drop off after him to guys like Miles Bridges, Sexton, Gafford, Shai, etc. 9 is about the magic number right now that I'm watching on tankathon right now for the Nets pick. If it falls anywhere in the top 9 I'll be satisfied. Especially if people keep valuing Mikal Bridges as late lottery.

Mikal #8 I take it? Can't blame you for that. I'd take Carter over him, but it's awfully close between those two, Bamba, and Bagley at the moment.

That's a bit much IMO.

Let the kid have his fucking moment after that play. I understand coaching like that is necessary with certain guys that need to be coached hard or respond to it, but give me a break. To go after him like that after that play is a bit much and just self-fulfilment on Izzo's part to me. He's a great coach though overall and is probably less of a blow-hard as your average NCAA basketball coach.

It kind of ruined the actual play for me lol. Rant over lol.

He didn't deserve to "have a moment" after dogging it on defense the previous possession. Acting like good plays make up for bad plays is a slippery slope for coaches.

Lol yeah, watching all this college basketball is starting to wear on me. D1 NCAA Basketball coaches are a different breed lmao.

At least they hold people accountable, much better than the NBA in that regard. The good NBA coaches do it.

I have Mikal and Jaren at 5 and 6, not sure who I'd take right now.

If you watch Calipari and the UK coaching staff for example... they're known to be nothing but negative with their players. To me it just seemed obvious that Izzo had a moment after the play and thought to himself before he went nuts, and it wasn't true emotion but rather being a blow-hard like I said lol. But idk I could be reading it wrong. And I can't even see Pop doing that after that play, let alone anyone else.

It's not just the Nets...almost every "bad" team is playing reasonably well these days. The longer that keeps up the better, obviously.

I just don’t agree with your assessment of these guys at all. You don’t make it to the pinnacle of coaching by having moments like the one you’re describing.

I agree...even at his ceiling he'd probably be a 4th/5th option offensively when he's on the floor, but his energy and leadership defensively could make him a big positive nonetheless. However, to be effective as a 4th/5th option, he needs to at least be able to score some garbage buckets around the basket and make open 3's. He can definitely do the former...can he do the latter? His 82% free throw shooting says maybe yes, the fact that he's only made 10 threes so far this year says maybe no.

Clark 2/2 from 3 in another monster all-around game tonight. For a team like the Cavs that frequently needs a shot in the arm on defense, he should be on the radar if we keep our on first rounder. Could be an instant impact rookie much like Jordan Bell has been for the Warriors this year.

He's more of an undrafted free agent guy right now I think. This draft is super deep as far as role players go imo. If he has a good tourney then maybe I could see him getting drafted in the second round. I haven't seen him really on many boards, or in anyone's top 60's or anything yet. And everyone sort of knows who he is at this point.

The Cavs could still conceivably buy a draft pick as well btw in the second round. After dumping Felder and Richard Jefferson to the Hawks and using cash to offset their salaries, the Cavs have $2.1 million left in cash that they can use in trades from now until the start of the next NBA year (June 1, 2018). If Clark or someone else is available that they'd want they could still buy a pick like they did with Felder. I doubt they'll do it though if they still have 2 firsts, but it's another option they'll have if they still have the cash remaining.

I do think though that the pick sale by Chicago to Golden State (who selected Jordan Bell) has kind of opened some eyes to some of the more poorly run organizations who don't value 2nd rounders for whatever reason. You really never see good franchises sell draft picks ever either.

Just being that Clark is a bit undersized and has some offensive questions at 23 years old, I'd be surprised if he was taken at all.

Damn... that dude's going to be 24 as a rookie next year.

True, and I've considered this, but honestly I don't think there's as big a difference between 22, 23, 24 year olds as there is between 18, 19, 20 year olds. After 22 or so, you are who you are as a player more or less (with some exceptions, obviously). If you're drafting an upperclassman, I think it's smart to just take the best basketball player, and not worry too much trying to project which upperclassmen might still improve and which ones might not.

If he averages an efficient 15-20 ppg through the rest of the season (and maintains his tidy 2:1 assist:TO ratio) I do think he'll get drafted, though I agree first round is a stretch. He genuinely may be the best all-around defensive player in college basketball...truly capable of guarding 1-5. In an increasingly switch-happy NBA, that's a big plus that I think teams will notice.

Yeah, for the record, I wasn't saying that in a negative way.

I haven't ever seen him play, so I can't judge his ability/future.
