2018 Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They’re likely not going to lock themselves into any long term contracts like Myers.

With so many players heading into contract years, and the payroll already likely to go up drastically next season, they’ll be in the market for expiring fixes, big time names like Machado in a “go for it” move.

They’ve got to get that done while keeping their key guys intact.

Oh god, I didn't know how large Myers extension actually was. I thought it was around 14 million, and would work really nicely if you lose Brantley/Lonnie.

He's gonna get paid 22 million a year after 2019? Yikes!

Still though, if it was McKenzie for unlimited pilfering of SD's bullpen, would you do it? And who would be your top targets?

McKenzie, Mejia, Jones, Valera and probably Eli Morgan are all unacceptable for just bullpen help.

Mid or lower tier guys only.

Clint Frazier and Justus Sheffield were both top tier prospects, but I think we can all agree that Andrew Miller was worth it. Having said that, I’m very reluctant to give up McKenzie in just about any realistic deal between now and the 31st.

Guys like Bradley, Chang, Castro, Haase would be really solid returns for any team giving up bullpen help and all of those guys are blocked in Cleveland for the foreseeable future.

No, definitely not.

McKenzie is not touchable for just bullpen help.

Sounds like the Phillies might be in the lead for Manny right now.

Also sounds like the O’s might be trying to maximize their returns by sending Britton away in a separate deal.

For what it’s worth, I think Machado winds up in Philly.

Klentak’s familiarity with the Orioles makes me believe there is a greater willingness to get a deal done.

No inside info, just me trying to read through it.

I think my favorite OF option right now is Andrew McCutchen. He's on the last year of his deal, and is SF turns into sellers, he should be reasonably cheap.

His OPS is only .765, but he's a righty, a respectable defender, and he sees 4.16 pitches per AB, which is 7th among OF.

If we're willing to take on his full salary for the rest of the year, he shouldn't cost us too much more than Jay Bruce did last year.

I'd legit be pleased with McCutchen and Adam Jones in CF and RF moving forward.

Thoughts?

Any scenario with Adam Jones in CF is probably not good.

I’m on board with either of those guys at value in right field.

Mejia not in the lineup today? I am actually surprised at that.

Both are pretty well done in CF. Ideally you get one and get the combination of Zimmer or Allen producing enough offensively to justify their superior defense.

Yep, if you can add a + bat to throw out in RF (not super high on Adam Jones or McCutchen at this point TBH, but we've gotta take what we can get), I'd definitely prefer to have a good defense and high speed guy like Allen/Zimmer patrolling CF. Brantley and another good bat in RF would offset the .210 and next to no power that Allen/Zimmer has.
