I bet the Indians put in a claim for Harper and and not Murphy. If the Dodgers can’t get a deal, they’ll go to the next team who claimed him, I think that’s how it works. But, you are right, he won’t make it out of the NL.

I believe once a player is claimed the options are to pull the player back, work out a trade, or let the team take on the player for nothing (in which case the claiming team pays the entirety of the contract remaining).

Once the player is pulled back, the team can place him on waivers again but whoever gets the player keeps the player; it's not revocable.

Being at the top of the AL contender waivers is nice but all the good players so far are in the NL.

Because Bryce Harper is a superstar. McCutchen is still owed about $4m over the course of the last 40 games and really isn't an upgrade to anyone the Dodgers have in their OF.
