2019 Cavs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Think this team makes playoffs. Going to be a fun season.

I agree. This is going to be team basketball and it's going to be fun to watch Cedi, Sexton and Z grow as players.

Not sure how this team gets better personnel-wise if they don't have a first-round pick next year. I imagine the Cavs FO realizes this and will trade Love closer to the deadline for hopefully a solid prospect and a pick (don't expect CJ McCollum or anyone on that level for Love).

Even if we want to go for the playoffs...how are we consistently score? Even assuming Love is at his best night in and night out, Cedi and Sexton are going to have plenty of nights where their shots don't fall.

When is the next time we draft a player with good shooting skills?
after Irving:
TT, Dion, Zeller, Canadian Bacon, Wiggins.
Once James came back, they added vets who could shoot because, well, the patented Lebron formula is James and 3-D, we just got more 3's than D.

Grant was awful at drafting. He hung his hat on acquiring draft assets but executed it poorly. Griffin never got painted with that brush, but he was part of the team who helped find gems like Bennett and Neon Dion. Hopefully Altman has what it takes, but I'd remain skeptical until truly proven otherwise.
Don't forget the Russian kid, who did more to influence the election than help the Cavs.

They need to be competitive, but still lose enough games to keep their pick next year. Without a LeBron-like talent on the team, there's no reason for FA to come here, so building through the draft or trading for young up and comers is the only way. Hell, it's not like they could get FA to come here when they HAD LeBron.

LA can't get free agents WITH LeBron. Let's not just assume we can't get free agents.

We could be a real good situation next summer for free agents. If Sexton looks like a good PG and we are able to give Love an extension, we could make room for 2 max player. Pair that with the other young guys we have, we might be seen as a ready made situation for a super team.

Lot's of post SL kool-aid to go around here......which is fine.....none of that changes the fact that George Hill or a rookie PG might be our second best player.

This team isn't going to be very good IMO but they will be fun to watch based on the mix of youth and pace (hopefully). I think it's going to be a really painful transition for many of these holdovers to learn how to play again without LeBron dominating the game though.

I suspect the first 1/3rd of the season is going to be really rough and uneven.....and then towards the back half, we may see them play better and win games. By that time, Love may be gone though, so who knows.

What do we calculate LeBron to be worth? 15-20 wins a season? That already puts us in the 30 win range and that's before we potentially subtract Hood's scoring on the wing......we are going to struggle to get buckets as a whole.

To me, if this team wins more than 30 games, I'd be really surprised. We are likely going to be breaking in what amounts to two rookies in the starting lineup and we are a disaster at the 2 guard. Maybe I'm being too negative here but I just can't envision a world where we can make the playoffs unless Sexton is efficiently scoring 18-20 a game and playing good D. Even then, I just look at the other talent and I just don't see it.

We just saw Kwahi traded for DeRozan. There are teams that will trade star for star. Portland might be one of them. If they feel like Lillard is going to try to push his way out if they don't do something, they might trade for Love to balance out their team better. McCollum is 26 and Love is 29. If we take another contract with McCollum, Portland can hedge and possibly have a max salary slot if Love doesn't work out.

This is going to be a year where we develop players, develop a new culture and habits..play hard.

develop zizic, cedi and sexton. try to get improvement out of nance, clarkson, hood

We still have a mid level. Not sure we can use it for anything at this point

I am sure Love will be moved for young talent/picks
Sure Hill, Korver will be as well.

Once that happens I expect a natural tank and get back the atlanta pick although I am not going to obsess about that pick

Love is not on the level of DeRozan.

DeRozan was the best player on a team that was a #1 seed. Love still has a lot of value, but not as much as a young labeled "star."

I'm also for the record sick of hearing about 42-win Minnesota Kevin Love. A whopping 42 wins. That was forever ago and means nothing. It was a different game back then, and Love was a different player.

I'd be shocked if Portland wanted to do McCollum for Love.

McCollum is also not anywhere close to Kwahi level. Love for McCollum is trading secondary star for secondary star. McCollum and Lillard have alot of overlapping talent. They need a PF or wing to balance out their roster better. I'm not sure Portland could get another all-star level PF or wing for McCollum.

I'm also high on McCollum but I'm not going to overrate his value. I think Portland is going to have to make a choice between Lillard or McCollum in the near future because the pressure Lillard will put on them to get better. Lillard wants to win now or he might be the next player to request a trade.

Per Coach Lue, the 2019 Cavs will have to earn playing time with hard work in the film room, the weight room, and the practice court.

Could you post a link?

And as long as they “play their game” and “be aggressive” they will see minutes.

As opposed to in his prior 2.5 years of coaching, when all they needed was to be old.

I find myself getting excited about watching a young team grow...

...Then I remember who is still coaching them.
