2019 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not starting a tank thread because I don't want to tank. We already have an elite QB prospect. We already have an elite DE. We don't need to tank; the most important thing now is to develop the guys we have and build a positive, winning culture.

With that said, it's obvious at this point that we will have a top 10 pick. It's time to start thinking about who we want with that pick. The holes are obvious: OT, WR, CB, DL - probably in that order.

At this point, I'm really hoping we can get the top OT prospect (the top couple DL will be off the board before we pick)...I assume that's Greg Little? He's a monster and it's a glaring weakness on the team. Yesterday's game against the Steelers was just a joke; we need to protect Baker.

If he's off the board, I'm good with taking the best remaining DL. I like a couple of these CBs, but investing another top 10 pick on a Corner would be tough.

I don't see any WR worthy of a top 10 pick in this draft. Take one later and/or sign free agents. I love the Funchess idea.

Anyway. That's my early .02

Funchess and Landry would be a perfect one-two punch at WR. You've got the big, fast size/speed guy in Funchess and the elite route running slot guy in Landry. And I assume we'd have Higgins around too as our third WR, a role I think he'd be great in.

I feel like Funchess could be a better fit with Mayfield as well in a pass-first offense. Carolina's offense is built around Cam and McCaffrey.

Another option I'd take a look at if he's available via trade is Marvin Jones. I know rumors are that the Lions are looking to move on from Tate but given that Golladay and Jones are pretty similar I have to imagine he'd be at least someone they'd discuss moving.

I'm not in for a tank either, but our remaining schedule is brutal. Realistically we will be lucky to win three more games at the most. That puts us at 5-10-1 and certainly a top 10 pick. However, I think only the Giants, Cardinals, 49ers, Bills, and Raiders will finish with a worse record than us.

In terms of talent - I like Bosa, Oliver, D. White, Greedy Williams, Rashan Gary, and Jonah Williams for the top 6. We need an elite LT in the worst way, so my vote is for Jonah Williams. Not giving up on Des Harrison because he does move well, but he would develop better starting over at RT.

We don't need to try to tank. That's for sure. The schedule and wasting half the season with the Hue Jackson anchor around our necks will pretty much take care of the rest for us.

It's too bad there is no generation WR coming out in this draft. Or is there?

I mean, you don't always know heading into the draft. I don't think most people thought OBJ would end up being one of the best WRs of all-time when he was drafted. He was good prospect, to be sure, but he was the third WR drafted in his own class. I think Watkins was being looked at as the potential generational talent in that class, and he ended up being just good.

Can we stop using generational talent every year? Sort of defeats the purpose. We need non slot WRs at this point and we need them badly.

Jerry Jeudy is the best I've seen in quite some time. Best I've seen since Beckham, who I had well above Sammy Watkins in 2014.

Really, there are a few freaks who could take the next step next year. DK Metcalf at OleMiss could return as well following a neck injury this season.

You want to overdraft a WR over much better prospects at positions that are also glaring needs?

Mock Draft Monday: You're Fired Edition

Head Coach: John DeFilippo
DC: Jack Del Rio or Jim Schwartz

Players In:

Malcom Brown - DT - Patriots - Gets slept on, but he's a perfect fit next to Ogunjobi and completes the DL.

Anthony Barr - LB - Vikings - Fuck it, pay him. Maybe you get the Flip connection and one of the higher contracts in the league among LBs. Replaces Jaime Collins.

Ryan Fitzmagic - QB - Bucs - Replaces Taylor, provides another veteran voice in the locker room for Mayfield.

Players Out:

Tyrod Taylor
Jaime Collins
TJ Carrie

Draft:

1 - Jonah Williams - LT - Alabama - An elite, pure LT with a polished skill-set and plus character. Harrison can compete for RT with Hubbard and settle into the rightful backup role he should be in.

2 - Hakeem Butler - WR - Iowa State - Larger target, 6'5 and 220+ with elite ball skills and contact balance. An absolute force at any level of the field and a problem for defenses. Field spreader in the Mike Evans mold, opens up Callaway and others over the top and Landry underneath.

3 - Lavert Hill - CB - Xichigan - A little bit undersized, similar to Ward. But the guy flat covers people up. Few others guys to mention when looking for a mid-round CB: Bryce Hall - UVA, Trayvon Mullen - Clemson, Levonta Taylor - FSU)

3 - Wyatt Ray - EDGE - Boston College - Putting up video game numbers along with Zach Allen on a tough BC defense that goes hard. Really good motor. Bring him in to develop with Garrett, Avery and Ogbah to produce a high-motor pass rushing foursome.

4 - TJ Hockenson - TE - Iowa - Not a popular opinion, but he's better than Noah Fant for me solely because of his prowess as a blocker. I loved George Kittle two years ago and he's been fantastic, Hockenson is similarly gifted.

5 - Derrick Brown - DT - Auburn - Inconsistent effort player that flashes and disappears from time to time. Very big, long arms and good athleticism.

5 - Nathan Stanley - QB - Iowa - Has to happen, they can't rely on Stanton and Fitzmagic forever. Have to go get a young guy to develop behind Baker. Stanley understands an NFL offense and has decent arm talent. IT Factor, grit, etc.

6 - Kavontae Turpin - WR - TCU - Was dismissed from TCU for another assault charge. Not sure where this guy is mentally, but if someone is going to take a chance on him, I'd like it to be Cleveland. An absolute weapon in the Tyreek Hill mold.

DPJ could take an early exit next year. Getting better with routes and body control. Excellent size 6-4 ish and is faster than quick but does have return potential. Starting to also catch with his hands more.
