2022 Minor League Week 11 Games Thread (6/14-6/19/22)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
(Repeating the post here for everyone to see it)

Gavin Williams started for Akron and got thru 3 IP (61 pitches). He had a rough patch in the 3rd inning.
Vargas is coming on to begin the 4th inning for the Ducks.

Akron leads 4-1 entering the bottom of the 4th..

But, part of that was poor defense in 3rd and 4th inn. You had Delgado go for tag (missed) and then to 1st (late). Then, you had Rocchio range to behind 2nd but threw low pulling Marcos off 1st for Vargas. But, in end, Wlliams had 6Ks in 3 innings and sat 95-96 T 97 even after 60 pitches. Vargas probably sat 95-97 but hit 101 with 1K in 1 inn. Not bad for 2nd app for Williams and 1st for Vargas.

Franmil attempted a SB today. Didn't make it.

His hammy must be feeling OK.

How was Vargas looking? I am not sure if you got to actually watch it or not.

First off, this was his first game above 2019 MV innings. I think that tells you what Guard FO thinks (AA means 1 yr to MLB?). He was facing bottom third of order so tough to get a read.

Also Naylor had problems with 2 sliders I believe that we at the back of left hand batter box. He tried to back hand one of them with someone on ... so may not have been prepped for movement which is good thing.

I had him T102. Sat 98-101. Didn’t throw many pitches, so didn’t see the slider much.

Just curious what you had Williams then as I saw 95-96 T97 on milb.tv ...

For Vargas, I rewatched (just curious as I didn't see much above 97)

MILB had 3 warmups at 85,91,96

Then in his inning 95,98,92,97,97,96,89,98 (but then showed also 96 right before next pitch - so something seems funky), 97,91,97,97,101,97 ...

.. So, if you got rid of first few pitches ... sat 97 per milb.tv (a bit more consistent then I recalled live)

Vargas has to get to Cleveland next year, because its his last option year. If he doesn't, it means he has to stick from the get go in 2024 or we have to DFA him.

It's quite possible if he is pitching well we carry him on the big league club as one of the relievers. With our starters, we usually don't have a ton of need for the last bullpen arm...

Yeah ... just kind of surprised he didn't start at LC as they were in town vs out-of-town Akron team for "rehab" start. And, I just assumed before this, that he is Sept (late) 2023 callup and then up for 2024. But, with placement (along with Curry, Gaddis, ... other starters maybe bullpen arms in the making) - Vargas may be on their radar for 2023 with only Miko, Pilk, and 1 or 2 others guys now ahead of him.

I'm not sure that we can carry anybody as a last bullpen arm that we don't have a lot of need for.

Its mid June, and we've already used 14 guys out of the pen. Two were starters, its true, but still....

Reyes is ready, hopefully his bat comes with him…..HR in his last ab…..

Franmil also had a single if you look at the box score but it was a long drive to right center at the top of the high wall that’s out of progressive with that lower fence
