2022 Summer League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cavaliers had been aggressive in the past when we didn't have 2nd round picks. I remember both Dean Wade and Lamar Stevens signed almost immediately after the draft. And last year I think they signed a couple to SL right when draft ended and they just didn't pan out.

I don't think they signed anyone last year, I could be wrong but I thought I felt the same way last year. Yes Wade and Stevens were two they did go after but this is the 6th season they could offer two way contracts. Going after 2 guys aggressively when there are two spots every year in the past 6 years just isn't that much.

Koby has used the two way spot to cycle between leftovers for the most part. He just hasn't utilize it to the extent that other teams have to get good players from the UDFA pool right out the gate. He has used it almost as a substitute of 10 day contracts when we have injury/health issues.

I agree he has made bad use of 2 Way contracts. And I didn't mean he signed a 2 way contract after the draft. I remember shortly after the draft he had signed Matt Ryan who was a sharpshooter in college and Chandler Vaurdin a big point guard to Exhibit 10 deals right away. This year he didn't even try to sign anyone to an exhibit 10 deal it seems.

So why not bring in somebody like Ron Harper Jr (a true wing) to see what he can bring to the table? Reading about him and I Mobley…..he has more potential to contribute than Mobley does!

I have to think a two way contract gives a higher amount for a signing bonus and summer league/camp than an exhibit 10. We really should just open up both two way contract spots before the draft and sign two guys every year. Even if we expect to put other guys in them later, it gives us a chip to get better talent and we can reevaluate at the start of the season on how we want our 15 man plus 2 two way roster make up to be.

We used a 2nd round pick on Mobley so we have him under team control, there is no point in announcing he will be going on a two way contract until 15 man roster cuts. Im all for trying to bring in guys and see what they got. A two way contract just seems like the only way to get the top UDFAs now.

What is with your strange obsession with Ron Harper Jr? Are you a Rutgers fan or Alumni? You've mentioned him all over the place since draft night. I think your chasing names and ignoring talent.

People keep shitting on Isiah Mobley like he's a talentless bum. Mobley led his college team in Points per game, rebounds per game, tied for leading the team in blocks per game, steals per game, assists per game. He has good size, good IQ and a good skill set. We had a desperate need for a backup Center after seeing Moses Brown and Ed Davis last year we got a backup C who can do a little more offensively and be a better all around defender.

Yeah, not a lot of roster flexibility right now.

We are at 13 including Sexton, probably holding a spot for Rubio, leaving one, maybe for a back up center, possibly Moses Brown.

I'm assuming Mobley and Nembhard are the two ways, the organization seems to see something in RJ, he was pretty productive with the charge last year.

Now things could change quickly with a Sexton sign & trade or if we can find a taker for Cedi and/or Windler.

One thing I was disappointed in was they didn't at least try to find a PG because we know Rubio won't be ready to start the season so there are opportunities to bring in a player and see what they got. I would like them to bring in a UDFA to compete with Goodwin and Nembhard because I find it real doubtful they are going to be able to sign a vet who will want to be a couple month substitute until Rubio returns. I would have gone real hard at one of the best UDFA PGs to see if they could be that substitute to start the season and possibly grow into something more. I hate to go for another retrend.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for a random UDFA PG to obsess over too, which could still happen. A lot can happen over the next week or so...or not.

If you see his stat line of 19 points per game, 8 rebounds per game, 6 assists per game. You may think he was productive. Until you dive a little deeper and see the shooting percentage of 41%, 3 point percentage of 31% and 4.2 Turnovers per game. Dude plays like Russell Westbrick without the athletic ability. I really wish the cavs would move on. Since he's likely the Summer League point guard it will be sad since he's gonna be playing hero ball for the 4 games.

You just can’t bring people in , they have to agree to come…..I hope people know there 29 other teams…….

I wonder if Vaudrin get another invite. He's the local kid that tore his acl in one of the sl games last year. He's a big PG and also attended a few Cav games this past season.

I obsess over our end of the roster moves every year, but they rarely move the needle of success. If any of these UDFA types make it into the top 8 of the rotation, it means we're dealing with multiple injuries.

Good thought, if he is healthy, worth another look.
