2023-2024 Buckeye Basketball

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
NIT has become the Man Holt's ceiling most seasons. Saddening as an attendee of tOSU from many moons ago.

Grew up in the age of the Thad 5 and played middle school hoops against Jared Sullinger and Trey Burke. Our HS in Grandview also had many a battle with the behemoth that was BJ Mullens at Harvest Prep, never put in the work on his game to pan out further.

Osu feels a year late on putting guys on the hot seat lately.

The 1st round loss to the 15 seed should have made the following year a hot seat year.

Lotta good young coaches at mid-majors. Ohio St isn't a bb destination, but it's still a step up for a lot of good coaches.

I don't think he'll get the job, but the guy I wonder about would be John Groce. I think he'll likely get an interview. He had a great run at Ohio, was OK at Illinois (and a bit of a fall guy), and has done pretty well at Akron. Akron hasn't had the tourney success yet, but they've consistently been near the top of the MAC since he's been there and are currently in 1st place. He was also an assistant under Matta for four years before taking the Ohio job.

As an Ohio alum I don't know if I even want him taking the job, but kind of seems like a no-brainer interview as a coach with OSU ties, Big 10 HC and assitant experience, and previous coaching stints in the region at Akron, Ohio, Xavier, Illinois, and Butler. Still relatively young for an HC at 52 as well. I think he's a guy that would bring a lot of excitement to the program with former players. I believe he was the lead recruiter when it came to that Oden, Conley, etc class.

I thought the same...not sure if Ohio St is too big for him, but his kids play hard for him. He's recruited well for his level too. Not sure Zips are throwing out a lot of NIL $, so that might be a big step for him to grow into also.

Interview - yes
Hire - ehh...big gamble, but he is the type of coach who might be ready for a big step up
(guys like him, maybe Wade from McNeese, the S Dakota St team has looked good, what about Sean Miller...big pool of good candidates from smaller programs to consider)
