2023-2024 Cleveland Guardians Offseason Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think a .750 OPS from Kwan is very unlikely. The league knows him and I'm sure they're aware of his lack of power everywhere except for down and in. Hell, I know it so you know they know it. You think they'll look to go to his strength or away from it?

He literally has a 739 career OPS through his age 25 season, lol.

26 and up is when more power usually comes. If Willi Castro can spike his OPS to 750 at that age (26 last year), so can absolutely Kwan.

Same goes for Will Brennan, btw.

The outlook for Brennan should be much more on a front burner.. He has the profile of a future everyday ML'er.. With a wee tweak here or there.. he could be & should be more.. imho..

Kwan also had a .823 OPS in the 2nd half of his rookie year...

I'm calling it now - Kwan had the classic "sophomore slump" in 2023. OPS-wise his 1st half in 23 wasn't good, 2nd half was a little bit better. Yet he still got on base 33.6% of the time in the 1st half and 34.6% in the 2nd half.

I expect Kwan to make a run at the All-Star team in 2024... @CDAV45 - want to bet a beer Kwan's OPS is 750 or higher at the All-Star break?

Absolutely!

Kwan is like 5'7" and 150 lbs. Any inflated OPS will come from doubles and triples and the league has adjusted to him. You've probably seen the best from Kwan already and he should be dealt.

Kwan at worst for the next 5 years is a 3+ bWAR per season from LF... Also who the heck is leading off then? We literally have no one else who is good with OBP%... We weren't good in that category even though we didn't SO...

I think you have too much of an appetite for big dongs that you may need to find them outside of baseball.

A few comments from CA/Vogt on Manzardo..

https://www.msn.com/en-us/video/peo...edc6b36de93d93&ocid=winp2fptaskbarhover&ei=18

Reading/listening between the lines.. "..not having many AB's.." and/or "..intermittant success..." and/or "..getting AB's against lefties..." along with the "gee, he's a swell guy" stuff.. says the CleFO/Vogt camp isn't sold on Manzardo breaking camp with the ML squad, imho..

They'll make him earn it, as they should. However, their aren't insurmountable obstacles occupying everyday lineup slots ahead of him. Injuries are inevitable, and perhaps having him begin the year in AAA opens up a slot for them to keep DDLS around if he shows promise in Spring Training.

Really wonder who rises to the top for some of these backup infield slots. Who is the starting SS and 2B in Columbus to begin the season?

Would like to know due to the whole up/down options remaining situation the FO has backed themselves into w/o trading any of them away in a consolidation deal for MLB level talent.

Wouldn't wager against this kid/spirit making yet another stride to further improve his play/output in the coming season. Whether that be additional pop with the lumber or sliding into Center and securing that spot for the foreseeable future, I would not limit his ceiling to the player he's been thus far simply due to his intelligence, work ethic and ability to implement what he's learned thus far on the fly, that along with his absurdly good plate discipline and great hands/bat to ball skills when he does swing.

I can just see him letting loose in advantageous counts a touch more than he had over the past two seasons.
His HRs will obviously very rarely be balls hung out over the outside corner, but he can really turn on anything left inside and drive it over many a RF wall. He's an ideal single & doubles guy who will be on base when Josh & Jose come up to bat in time to do the real damage and run generation, but Kwan is that vastly needed "duck on the pond" to be driven on in and generate those RBI opportunities for teammates and playing winning Cleveland style baseball!

If nothing else... I would love to see him make a point of ambushing a first pitch in an at bat at the very least once each game.. That straight hittable FB could be (and often times is) the best pitch he's going to get to hit..

Spotting most elite pitchers a 0-1 count is in most cases a death knell, do grasp why he does it for himself and the others, but given he's know established the reputation for such you are correct. That could well be a pitch he attempts to drive and then protects and adapts thereafter within an at bat as he so frequently does otherwise.
