2023-24 Season | Game #17 | Raptors @ Cavs | Nov. 26, 2023 | 7:30 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What I liked most (besides Allen forcing "Booty Fingaz" Trent out of bounds on that last possession) is the REFUSAL of the Cavs to back down to the Raptors "foul everyone" physical style of play.

TT and Niang especially, but it cascaded down the team. All we need is the bigs to learn the art of boxing out. JA had some great screens that the Dinos had to fight.

We have something special with Max Strus. Definitely not a "Heat system player", he reminds me of Klay Thompson with some of the stuff he does.

This is a game thread man.

Imagine what you’d hear if you were in a bar during a game. It’s pretty much that.

Lower your expectations in these.
I love this place and I probably also contribute in some of the ways he's talking about at time( it think) but to be fair to him what he's describing is essentially the tone of pretty much every thread in all Cavs related parts of this forum. Agree fully the the game threads have always, will always, and probably should always be that loose kind of wild wild west feel.

On one hand, welcome to being in an online fandom and to me it's still the absolute best Cavs community in existence for multiple decades now, but on the other, he's not wrong and he's not some newcomer adjusting to the overall vibe of the place

Cavs hang on despite another brutal shooting night by Mitchell (4-for-17). Fortunately, the Raptors didn't shoot that well, either, at 41.6% and 25% on 3's. But Donovan made two huge free throws at the end that forced the Raps to take a 3-point shot rather than a 2, allowing the Cavs to defend just the 3-point line.

The Cavs had 29 assists to 14 turnovers and that's a solid ratio, especially against a super aggressive and athetic team like Toronto.

The free throw disparity of 29-6 was ridiculous, and two of the Cavs' free throws were on a deliberate foul at the end of the game so it was actually 29-4. I'm sure the Cavs will file a complaint with the league. But clearly the Raptors were the more athletic team. The Cavs were lucky the Raptors missed nine free throws.

Garland had a great game after missing the second half last night, playing 41 minutes with 24 points, 8 assists, and a +12. But where was CPJ?

TT probably saved the game with an incredible 7 minute stretch. I don't know if he's ever played better, especially defensively.

time for some accountability.

Why do you think they will win fewer games than last year, with an improved roster? Injuries? Other teams getting MORE better?

During last last year's regular season, it looked to me like everyone was bought in all the time. Effort and buy-in was never a question because it jumped off the screen as their defining characteristic.

This year, we just kind of look like everyone else in that regard. No longer seems to be a clear Cavs' advantage.

That's pretty subjective. I'm not seeing a lack of effort or buy-in. However, they've dropped from #1 to #15 in defensive efficiency from last year. Teams are having an easier time scoring this season. That's partly because we've played the league's top scoring team, Indiana, twice and the 4th highest scorer, OKC, twice as well.

Having Allen out for 5 of the 17 games also hurt the defense.

Just realized Strus had 20 points in the 3rd quarter to turn a 10-point halftime disadvantage into a 2-point lead going into the 4th. This guy has been awesome. He's second only to Mitchell in on/off at +14.1. Among "wings" he ranks in the 85th percentile in defensive rebound rate, an area where the Cavs were (and still are) very deficient. IOW, he's helped patch over their biggest vulnerability in addition to his scoring and passing.

He's also in the 62nd percentile among wings in 3-point percentage and the trend is up as he's hitting 40% in November. In his last four games he's 14-for-30 from deep, or 46.7%.

Of course, if they'd have lost, you would have assigned 100% of the blame to him.

You must be a blast at parties.
I am, in fact.

Surprisingly, my negative opinion of JBB, which is never brought up, doesn’t dampen the mood.
