2023-24 Season | Game #43 | Cavs @ Bucks | Jan. 26, 2024 | 8:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What was really impressive was the Cavs didn't shoot that well, making only 41.3% of their shots. Mitchell was 12-for-27 and he missed some jumpers from the elbow area that he usually makes. Allen missed 11 shots and most of those were shots he usually makes, like the wide open push shots in front of the rim. He airballed an uncontested jumper from the elbow.

LeVert and Strus were 3-for-10 and Okoro 1-for-6. The Bucks are trying to become a better defensive team and they played hard, but the Cavs missed a lot of makeable shots, yet still won by 12. They also missed 9 free throws. With even an average shooting night the Cavs would have won by 20 or more.

After two games in Milwaukee it's 1-1 and the cumulative score is Cavs 228, Bucks 226. Given that the Bucks had their entire roster plus home court advantage while the Cavs were missing two starters I'd say they did very, very well.

Crazy how Dean Wade was the one who delivered every time when we needed a backbreaking 3. He's healthy and playing the best basketball of his career.

And Strus had an awesome game for us as well. Ball movement was fantastic, he seemed to win every 50/50 ball and hit a huge contested 3.

It’s easy to come in postgame and make comments and analysis; posters are making real-time posts in reaction to what is occurring at that time. Fan is derived from fanatic and if you’re in here on a game by basis , you’re a fanatic. Of course, there are overreactions but it’s all within the desire for us to do better and win.

During the course of the game , it’s more than legitimate criticism to harp on Okoro for missing 4 straight free throws regardless of his blocks and other contributions; just as it was legitimate criticism when Donovan was playing iso-ball as the Cavs were squandering a lead despite his immeasurable positive contributions throughout the game
I wasn't able to watch in real time so I watched the replay and now catching up on this thread. When I am participating in a game thread I call out negativity in real time and I get hammered anytime I make a single comment along those lines. We are supposed to be fans, and hopefully we like most our players. What sticks in my craw, immediately when I see it, is the "Donovan is trash" or "JA sucks" type things that get thrown out during games. Usually those comments come in swarms from 3 or 4 people. Also nit-picking criticisms, like these players are expected to be perfect every play, or to have perfect energy game in and game out for 82 games.

I can accept and even strongly agree with legitimate criticisms like someone saying specifically that a player is having a bad game, or Okoro stinks from the free throw line tonight, etc.

But lazy, blanket statements calling someone trash, lazy, soft? I'm going to jump on those comments. As if the people making the comment never have a bad day or a bad moment? Have a little humility and respect for these world class athletes for Pete's sake.

And as much as those people have every right to make some of those lazy comments, I have the same right to give my opinion on their opinion.

I have to say I'm proud of how this team fought and responded to the previous loss. Excellent win last night! And I hope Mitchell's injury is minor. Hopefully JBB can find a way to go easy on him for awhile, maybe make him a spot up shooter for a few games (CPJ please?)

Agreed.

Game threads take it on the chin so other threads can survive. I have no problems with overreactions (and I make them) and no problems with complaints or critiques of overreacting posts. We only monitor for slurs and open combat here. Occasionally we have to caution posters who violently complain about the existence and venting nature of the threads.

There are some limits but rcf has always flourished when game threads are active. This is a self-selecting group of posters and all are welcome.

At one point during the third quarter, the Cavs held Milwaukee, the league’s second-highest scoring offense, to one made field goal in about nine minutes. The Bucks had 12 straight empty possessions, with Cleveland’s lockdown D sparking a game-changing 17-2 run... - Fedor

Following Wednesday’s loss, there was some chatter in the locker room about recognizing exactly what went wrong and being able to correct it in the next 48 hours. - Fedor

Which is exactly what playoff teams need to be able to do.

When you have this kind of a series against one team, you want to prepare for it as if it is a playoff game and use it as practice. How we studied, how we prepared, what we did yesterday, what happened in shootaround, we wanted to use it as a kind of a dry run so to speak for what a playoff game would look like. - JBB

Dean Wade making the most of his time with Mobley out has been the best part of this. I believe he has earned "JBB Rotational Trust" which will be huge once Mobley returns.

12/15 was supposed to be Doomsday, but it's really become a day of blessings. Seeing Dean, Sam, and CPJ step up in these voids has been huge.

I also heard that the Bucks broadcast called Dean Wade "3 And Dean" and that might be one of the coolest things I've heard from an opponent broadcast.

Drippy stays scorching hot from 3. So happy for that dude.

But shout out to Jarrett Allen. Accepted the Giannis challenge, took a beating then outscored and out rebounded him. Also had to deal with Brook Lopez's big crying ass.

Honorable mention to Damien Jones who went from looking unplayable to looking serviceable out there.

Four factors as measured by Basketball Reference: efg%, oreb%, turnover%, Ft/FGA.

We won all four vs Milwaukee. Outstanding. We beat them in every phase of the game.

But imho the main driver was the relentless defense. We really stuffed Dame
and Giannis compared typo their normal output. That forward duo of Ice and Dean makes life miserable for opposing scorers, and JA holds down the fort in the middle.

Both Ice and Dean have picked up their three point game - especially Mean Dean, who is up to 41.3%, by far the best of his career. He’s also moving behind the line more, faking, and getting himself open.

Those two have really responded to the two big injuries. Defense is grossly underrated in today’s NBA but the Cavaliers are proving it does win games.

Celebrate this win with the newest episode of RRJ.

@RchfldCavRaised and I got into an Uncactual fistfight live in studio. Who wins?

I'm admittedly a Donovan stan - which is why I have become a Cleveland fan - but have really fallen in love with some of the other players on this team. JA is a breath of fresh air after watching Don play with Gobert in Utah. Gobert was alway whinning and rarely had a smile on his face. JA plays hard but looks like he's having a good time doing it. Last year I would groan anytime Wade came into the game. I thought his defense was average at best and he could never hit an open shot. This year has been a revelation. His shooting has gotten better, but even when the shots aren't falling you can count on him for shutdown, hard nosed defense. I think Sam has turned into one of my favorite role players in the league. Absolute knock down and is oozing with confidence. Team is so fun to watch and I really hope DG and EM figure out how to fit in.

Speaking of Don, I went back and watched the game again last night and his defense was outstanding for the most part. He got caught looking and missing a defensive rebound once and then not getting out on Crowder which lead to an open three, but he was on Beasley most of the night and locked him up. Beasly is one of the best three point shooters in the league and was held without a shot until is crazy drifting 3 from the corner later in the 4th. I think this has been Don's best defensive year of his career.
