2023 Game #4 | #6 Ohio State @ #9 Notre Dame | September 23, 2023 @ 7:30 PM EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I just looked up Joe Germaine and somehow his .40 time was 4.69?

Ohio States clock man had to be cooking the books that pro day.

There's no way.

Jim Knowles deserves the most credit.

He's turned the defense around. They were good last year. They're better thisbyear.

That doesn't mean an elite team won't score, but they aren't letting the non-elite teams do it like they were the year before he got here.

Clearly the strength of the team this year.

Pass rush doesn't feel good but again like no one is throwing down the field.

Denzel Burke has probably been the best player on the team so far this season imo.

Ecstatic to win but I think the playcalling in short yardage needs to change. In a big way.

And McCord is going to seriously cap this team’s ceiling.

But i dont fucking care tonight

It's not just short yardage, the design of the run game just isn't up to par. For Day to coach under Chip Kelly and Urban Meyer, yet didn't pick up any concepts to run the ball effectively is pretty crazy. The way we run the ball is so vanilla. Same goes for how we use our RBs in the passing game and using our WRs as an extension of the run game.

Day was fired up from what Lou Holtz said about us...

"Notre Dame is a better football team than Ohio State," Holtz, who led the Fighting Irish to 100 wins in 11 seasons as their head coach and a national championship in 1988, said Friday on "The Pat McAfee Show." "And let me tell you why: We have the best offensive line in the country. Sam Hartman won't even get his jersey dirty all year. He has time to throw the football... We have great running backs. This team is averaging about 10 yards per carry. We have great receivers, so offensively, we're set. Defensively, our defensive line's better.

"You look at coach (Ryan) Day — and I coached at Ohio State under Woody Hayes. We won the national championship when I was there. I'm proud of that. However, he has lost to Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Michigan twice. And everybody (that) beats him, does so because they are more physical than Ohio State. And I think Notre Dame will take that same approach."

Edit FWIW Day makes up for the Ebuka end around on the prior drive with the run to win the game. Notre Dame clearly wasn't looking for the run which is absolutely shocking.

That interview was out of nowhere. Wasn't Ryan Day one of the most bland, milquetoast interviews before?

Short yardage continues to be well below acceptable.

Notre Dame wasn't even lined up correctly. They didn't have a down lineman on the left side of the line and they were 6 inches from stopping us and winning the game.

It's been a sore spot for years.

Most incredible final drive I've ever seen in my life.
Snatched victory out of the jaws of defeat.

Don’t follow OSU but is this QB supposed to be good? He was pretty rough from my expert eye

Thanks for the summary...
I had no idea what Day was referencing in the on-field interview after the game.
Now it makes some sense...
