I've never disagreed about regular playing time being essential for a solid evaluation, but those perfect conditions almost never exist for any prospect, so why roll out the red carpet for Arias? Did Benson get a fair opportunity? Freeman? Not even Jose got that, he had to move position and earn it. And as we've seen with Jose or vice versa with Oscar or Naquin, you need hundreds up to 1000 PA to get the real picture. What does that mean for the other MIF if that's the qualifier for "a real look"?
It's about commitment and preference and if the org's eval process mirrors yours I think it's the next misstep. It's already an obvious commitment over Freeman, who most scouting reports and robots preferred to Arias. If it leads to Freeman never getting a real shot or being moved, that's already a mistake in my book.
Problem is this... Freeman doesn't have the defensive capabilities that Arias does nor does Freeman have the ceiling Arias does...
Freeman has a hell of a floor though, problem is Freeman is a style that we already have on the roster. When we decided to keep Gimenez at 2B that kind of put Freeman out of the long term plans in my mind... He's going to end up elsewhere and compete for a batting title, though his SLG% and OPS% will never honestly be that great.
Guess who this player is?
It's Arias vs. RHP + Amed vs. LHP in 2023

It happened this season, but that doesn't mean it'd happen again. So what you are saying is if we platoon Arias, with a SS who hits lefties well, we have a monster on our hands? Lol
He did have the same issue with K's in the minors but no it wasn't this severe though if you translate about a 30% K rate in AAA to the majors I don't think you're gonna get good results. It happened this season, but that doesn't mean it'd happen again.
I think it's more likely that Arias normalizes a little vs. LHP and dips vs. RHP next year. I've never seen a reverse platoon split this extreme. Doesn't seem sustainable. (He should immediately seek radical treatment for his Sinistrophobia.)
