2024 Guardians Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Since they picked up Parsons, I would add him over Avila and maybe go to a 6 man rotation for a brief time just to see if he can help and reduce the overall work load.

I didn't say bad, I said they were average. 90 passer rating is average. He was also 1-10 as a starter that year. He'd be competing as a low end starter going strictly be on the field.

Trevor Bauer's numbers were a 2.59 ERA and 1.003 WHIP. That sounds like a pretty elite pitcher.

You compared the two off the field which is fine, I'm not an alpha male expert so I'll leave that to you. I just wanted to say their on the field abilities and production aren't really comparable.
Your narrative on Kaepernick just isn’t correct. There’s no precedent from someone as good as he was becoming completely unable to find a job, even as a backup. The owners used the team falling apart around him as a convenient excuse to blackball him from the league, i don’t even think that’s really up for debate anymore.

Maybe you have trouble reading but I never said he wasn't blackballed. I said Kaep and Bauer were different levels of performers

You forget one thing about Kaepernick... He wouldn't take a backup job and when he did that workout fiasco, that told me, he really was only accepting everything he wanted (Aka money and/or guaranteed starting QB spot).

After the lawsuit and the Nike deal he wasn't serious about returning to the league as backup and working his way up. It was obvious

Cleveland is now 8-5 against teams with a winning record and 6-4 against the big bad east. Kind of flies in the face of the national media's claim that the Guardos haven't played anybody.

Yeah enough of the Kaepernick talk. Wrong sport.

Was Bauer good to great? Yes.
Was he blackballed over false allegations? Yes.
Do I think he deserves another shot? Yes.
Does my opinion matter on the subject. No.

That being said. Pitching is a long term concern with this team. Feels like the dam is going to break any day now. Lively has been impressive and Curry is sitting in AAA after a good performance in his spot start. So it's not end of the world concern. But unless Bibee steps up we don't have a front of the order arm and Williams health is now becoming a concern.
I'm surprised Cookie makes it through three innings some games. He needs to find a way to get batters out when he's got two strikes.

Though I wouldn't be counting on him, Adam Oller is playing pretty well for the Clippers in a SSS.

Coming from someone who agreed with his protests, this makes the most sense to me based on what I saw. His skills also just deteriorated with his time out of the league, and after a year or two it was actually clear that he just was not good enough for the big show. I think there was actually incentive TO sign him into the NFL in 2020 and he tried out for teams, but success 6+ years ago isn't enough reason to sign someone.

I think he was clearly black-balled AT FIRST but the skills just haven't been there recently. He left the league ranked #23 in QBR in 2016, after the first and second worst years of his pro career.

Xzavion Curry was optioned to Columbus on April 17th. he's eligible to be back with the parent club any time after 10 days.. That might be one day late for the Guardians needs.. but, that's life in the big city...

Their on field numbers are worlds apart. One guy put up average numbers on a 1-10 team with the 27th ranked scoring offense in the league. The other guy was one of the best starting pitchers in the league.

And in the season before that. Kaep had a 78.1 passer rating while Bauer won the Cy Young. One guy was elite, the other guy was average and might not have even been a starter. I think you're the only willing to die on that hill.

And that's not even getting into the fact Kaep looked like ass at his workouts.

One guy is a big enough asshole that a cy young can’t overcome what an asshole he is.

Literally untouchable.

The other guy was a Super Bowl QB who youve shown so much bias towards that it hard to take seriously. So much so that you’re trying to compare stats between baseball and football.

Comical.

Kaepernick wasn't really that good... IF he was as good as you say, and as dedicated to the sport, he would have been back in the league. He refused to take a backup role period. He refused to take a pay cut... He was a lot more full of himself that way...

Bauer is full of himself for sure, but he is also willing to take a pay cut. He is way more reasonable than you believe. He is willing to sign with any team to prove his worth. No one ever complained about his dedication or his knowledge of the game.

Why is Ozuna and Chapman still playing when they were actually charged and Bauer isn't... Both were charged for domestic violence/battery and yet Bauer, as much as people don't like the dude, was never arrested or paid out any hush money to anyone....

Bauer spoke out against Manfred and other leaders. He actually was the leading voice against these TV deals and blackouts people complain about.

Now, he burnt the bridges in Cleveland and he's not a good fit personality wise, but he should still be in the league regardless since others did more and are still playing.

Alright, back on topic... Bauer isn't gonna sign with Cleveland, but I think someone should sign him...

Now, that being said, we will look by the trade deadline at what the prices of Blackburn are and any other team who isn't in contention with SPs under shorter term contracts and see if we can make a deal that makes sense.

Not sure who will be available, but Cleveland will try and find reinforcements in due time... The bullpen will definitely be fine talent wise....
