2024 Season | Series #9 | Guardians @ Braves | April 26-28, 2024

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
First heart breaking loss of the season. There will be more.

Uncharacteristic of the Guardians to make so many mental mistakes, especially Kwan taking off before the pitch TWICE and getting picked off and then Jose slowing down and not sliding on a steal attempt that would have put him on second with the go ahead run in the 10th with Josh Naylor at the plate.

I complained a while back about Guardians taking off for 3rd base against a lefty before he starts his delivery and getting picked off. It happened again today. And of course no sooner does Kwan get picked off than Jose singles to right.

Yeah, bring in Clase to start an inning with a runner on 2nd and we lose every time. But as someone pointed out, Herrin was the only guy left. I'd like to see guys like Beede and Barlow throw more than one inning. Smith threw nine pitches, Beede 10, and Barlow 14 but none of them came out for a second inning.

Josh Naylor struck out on three pitches against Elder with the bases loaded and one out. That rarely happens. All the guy was throwing was off-speed stuff.

Great start by Lively even though he only went 4.2 innings. Still, holding the Braves to one run was a good start. I couldn't believe how many swings and misses he was getting on his 90 mph fastball. But we needed one more inning from him so we didn't have to bring Gaddis on in the 8th. That's three strong starts in a row from Lively, so that's huge with Williams still out and Carrasco and Logan struggling.

After yesterday Vogt said Gaddis would be right back out there today and he was, in the exact same situation with the exact same result. I like that he gave Hunter a chance to get back on the horse, but he wasn't up to it. Too bad about the broken bat bloop that tied the game, however. Olson chased a nasty slider out of the zone and blooped it in with the infield pulled in.

Going 1-2 with one of the losses in extra innings is a pretty good result considering who we were playing, IMO.

Who are you going with instead of Clase there though? Sandlin, Barlow, Smith, Gaddis and Beede all burned through already.

So it’s basically Clase or Herrin against all righty bats?
Maybe set up something different on the road to getting to that situation. Sandlin looks awesome. Maybe not go to him so early. Hentges will be back.

Sandlin will have an outing where he can’t find the strikezone and people are wondering why he was in a tight spot in the first place (seen it before).

Smith will get hit around (we’ve already seen that).

Barlow will have outings where he puts more runners on than you’re comfortable with.

That’s just baseball. Hyper analyzing why a manager keeps going to his best bullpen guys late is strange. Though I do wish Vogt went with his back end more like the Cody Allen and Andrew Miller pairing and had Clase go in the 8th if it was the top or heart of the order due up.

u do u dude
Statistically speaking, even the Braves who won 104 games last year ended with a .642 win %. Which is less than winning every 2/3 games.

Long season. We are currently over the .666 which so are the Braves. It won't last for the entire season. We have hung tight with the other two best teams in the league. Days like this will happen, just can't make it a more consistent thing.

Tough loss, but good series.

Second loss after the last game in Oakland that hurts a little, but every team has those.

Really liked the Vogt postgame interview. Realistic comments on the game.

I hope so much we found our Kevin Cash (maybe even better).

Kwan earned himself an extra day off today. I heard Houston has great authentic Mexican food he can enjoy Tuesday night.

Every team is going to win 60 games (maybe not this years ChiSox though), every team is going to lose 60 games.

Those other 42 are the make or break.

Always a fun way to look at things to keep calm during a season of ups and downs just from the nature of the length of it.

You’d be hard pressed to find a manager who can relate to players better than Tito in baseball.

But we may have done just that. Amazing how much his players love him and want to do well for him already. A lot of mutual respect.

Almost makes me want the team to scuffle a bit just to see if he can keep them on track mentally and not let things snowball.

He’s done really well with individual players to this point. But, and this is a good thing, he hasn’t had a chance to do this while his team is scuffling.

It’s going to happen and I’m curious to see what happens in the clubhouse.

I'll be sincere, I don't think anything will happen other than motivating them more because the loss was because of personal errors. You won't see Kwan or JRam allow them to do that again. You will see Gaddis likely talking and figuring out what happened so it doesn't repeat. Guys like Carrasco and Barlow will be there with Hedges to help Gaddis if need be. I wouldn't be surprised to see Gaddis hit 100 in his next outing just because he is blowing off steam...

3 hours since the game ended, and I’m still salty. REAL salty.
