#52 DeShone Kizer

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If you actually hope Kizer should sit. Brock should stay, because when Kessler gets that first concussion someone will be pressed into action.

If Kessler gets another concussion he's probably done for good. I think Jordan Cameron had three in a two year span. Was never the same.

I think kizer sits.. it's been said, browns roster is not ready for a stud qb.. until we learn to block and have a running game, whoever is taking snaps is going to get cracked ribs eventually.

Out of all the QB's he was kinda the one I wanted least to be honest.

...

This all being said? At least it doesn't feel like the Manziel or Weeden where we passed up on talent to actually start for this team in order to "reach" for a guy with 2nd round grades.

I'm hoping he succeeds. I'm not convinced of him yet, but I guess we'll see.

I really don't get how he could be one people wanted the least.

His 2015 tape is great. ND was a dumpster fire last year. He has pretty much all the physical tools you'd want. He's nowhere near a sure thing, but compared to guys like Mahomes, Watson, Trubisky? Don't see what places those guys so far ahead of Kizer. Frankly I'd be shocked if Watson is any good.

Could be just my notre dame qb phobia showing. I mean I kinda cringe looking at guys like Clausen and Quinn.

I think Mahonnes has a chance to be successful, as does Watson due to them going to already established, "Good" franchises.

But...my other stupid fear is that by week 8 we hear guys like Rizzo, etc bitching about how we "missed" on not landing Watson and we'll have to deal with the whining from them.

I will say that unlike Watson? Kizer seems like he wants to play here, and took the steps to do as much. Watson blowing the Browns off, and the expecting them to draft him was incredibly arrogant.

If I'd just won a national championship and felt like I was hot shit, I'd probably try to dissuade the QB garbage dumb as well.

I think ND only had one player drafted besides Kizer and he was a NT or a Long Snapper.

Exactly, and that's why the more I've had time to digest it, I'm absolutely stoked about the Kizer pick.

I mean, for being ND, his supporting cast was young and very poor, as evidenced by the draft class. That defense was epically bad. His line was terrible. Even still, he threw for 26 TD to 9 INT and moved the offense well at times.

2015 Kizer looked like a top ten pick in the future, and after the Texas game to start 2016, it looked like he might be the first overall pick.

That guy is still in there. Forgive me, but I think Brian Kelly is a great recruiter but terrible fucking coach. The pressure mounted on DeShone to carry this team, and it's hard to do that without the unwavering support from your coach through the slightest of rocky times. There's tough love, and there's threats and a quick-hook. I think Kelly did more to fuck up DeShone and his 2016 psyche than we attribute credit for.

I've gone back and watched a lot more of his tape. The good moments, dear God are they good. They are as good a prospect as we've seen in awhile good. His bad moments are straight up perplexing.

His presser, his interviews, the way he speaks and carries himself.... it's all impressive. The entire Gruden QB camp, which is mostly just for entertainment, he handles like a professional. He's clearly extremely intelligent.

So I look at his brain. I look at his size. I look at his athleticism and arm talent. I look at where we got him.... and I can't help but think that Hue is truly going to get the most out of this kid. It's a perfect personality match. Hue is tough but loving.

At this point, I'm convinced it won't even be "if" but "when." I think he has a legitimate shot to be our QB for the next 10 years. He's too smart, motivated, and talented to not soak up what Hue wants and translate it on the field.

Or.... maybe it's just that I'm hammered right now.

I can't blame him for that, but I know exactly what the story is going to be if the Browns are struggling, and Watson is leading the Texans on some sort of run.

It'll be Rizzo ranting about how they should have drafted this guy, how's he's a franchise guy and completely ignoring the track record that Houston has had building their team.

I do think that's an underrated factor as to why we've seen our franchise struggle btw. You gotta have some sort of semblance of a team out there before throwing a guy out there. Can't have Cam Irving taking snaps at Center getting beat off the ball while he has no one to throw to.

To this team's credit? This is very much not the case any more. But...I am a bit anxious about any qb being able to succeed in this enviorment at the moment. Kizer has an uphill battle that Watson, Mahonnes do not have. He's gonna have a hell of a lot on his shoulders.

Kizer in his rookie season will be a long shot to actually start since they have decided to keep Brock, but it wouldn't surprise me if they have 5 QBs in camp, cutting two and one of those guys moving to the practice squad. There werent very many QBs actually drafted do I think we get at least one more in the next few days. Kizer I think is the long term guy, but short term will be between Kessler and Osweiler.

You can't sit in Cleveland. By game 4 we are into our 3rd or 4th QB on the roster and are looking through trash piles for more.

He will play, hopefully it's not until the end of the season though so he can get SOME nfl exposure.

As far as running game goes, until we can admit that Crow is nothing more than a mediocre undrafted player that exceeded his potential a few times, it will remain semi-existent.

I am not confident on anything having to do with Osweiler. I really don't know what they are going to do. If it were me, I'd keep Osweiler and have him compete with Kessler for the starting job. It's just 1 more capable guy that is between Kizer and the field in 2017. Kizer needs to learn this season. Sprinkle him in here or there but don't put the load on him to win games this season, at least early on. If he proves himself in practice through out the season, let's go! But if we keep Osweiler, I think he'll be a capable starter or a good backup to Kessler. I don't see the advantage of gaining a 5th-6th round pick for him opposed to actually using him on the field. Given our scheme and the burden of his contract off his shoulders, I think Osweiler can be a significantly improved player from last year.

As far as the rest of the QBs like Hogan, he's a camp arm and no loss whatsoever if he's cut. Practice squad? Sure I think he's still eligible but if someone else is interesting, I have no problem dropping Hogan and finding a JAG.

I think we are on the same page.. whoever starts has been getting hammered in the backfield, so with an untested rookie, whose major criticism is slow reads and uncertain decision making, probably not the best guy to throw in the fire.. Osweiler on the other hand, the 15 million dollar albatross, is the ideal guy to start.. if he survives, we have a trade piece, if he gets clocked into oblivion we collect the insurance..

I like Kizer as a dice roll pick. Worst case we groom him and trade him out for picks before he goes free agent (a la Jimmy G) . Best case we save millions in the QB free agent race next year. But I don't see him in action until we are confident he will look good.
