#52 DeShone Kizer

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Which one of the 5 are you referring to? :chuckle:

The one with the interception, I assume?

Yeah, that was pretty demoralizing.

Yes sorry, I should be more clear. The one he dropped right at his chest on the goal line and fell right into the Bengals laps.

This is so incredibly unfair to Kizer. Is there any way the Browns can trade Crow for a WRer? For the love of God do we need Coleman back.

I will judge Kizer this year based on the good throws he puts on tape, how he develops in terms of recognizing coverages, and how he handles himself as a leader in what's going to be a long year. In addition, I will evaluate how he stays poised in the pocket throughout the year.

That's it. That's all I can watch.

This team is putrid and I thought last year was bad.

It's like it's his first day on the job as a fire fighter and it happened to be 9/11. How the fuck do you be ready for that? You go out, give it all you got, and if you make mistakes, you make them giving maximum effort.

He's doing that.

We can't judge him based on stats, it's unfair. I'd argue he has the worst receiving unit the league has ever seen. Hyperbole? Probably. But for fucks sake, I don't think a single one (other than Coleman) even deserves to be on any NFL roster.

They can't run routes, they can't catch, they can't even have the decency if they are gonna drop a ball to NOT knock it right into a defenders hands.

On top of that, we have absolutely no run game to support him. He was fantastic off play action in college. Good luck with that on this team. Our lead back (who thinks he's going to get paid) looks like Ray Charles trying to hit the hole.

On top of that (again), we get behind immediately and he has to throw 40+ times to guys who may drop it even if he walked it out to them and handed it to them.

We also can't judge him on wins. This looks like a 1 win team. And that one win is only because some team decides to go out on the town the night before because they're only playing the Browns and we sneak up and win on a missed FG.

We can't even say he should make us competitive in games. It's going to be embarrassing at times given this supporting cast. He's supposed to be the ring leader of a circus, and he's out there cracking that whip and putting lions on boxes like he actually wants the job.

We can't even blame him when he forces throws. Why? He almost HAS to in the second half of games. Some of these dumb decisions are inexperience. Others are frustration. We should be able to empathize with either given the circumstance.

I hope we can get him to just play within himself, not get discouraged, and tell him he doesn't have to push the envelope. Just focus on making smart decisions, even if we are down 24-0 and need points.

Let's just pray one year can't destroy this kid inside because I see every single tool that makes a good NFL quarterback. He's shown flashes of all of those tools in actual NFL games.

The poor kid.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. You know, unless it kills you...

If Kizer does survive this season while making continuous improvements regarding how to read defenses, adjusting to different blitzes and pass rush situations, etc. then he could end up being one hell of a good quarterback. He has to survive some of the worst receiving performances ever.

Watching Kizer's press conference he kept talking about needing 11 people to do their jobs. He said that over and over again. I really think that was his criticism directed to guys like Britt. If Britt even remotely did his job the game would have looked a lot different. The Bengals still beat the Browns up in all aspects of the game, but if we could have converted points in the red zone instead of the horrific turnovers and drops, it changes the mind set of players on both sides of the ball.

Maybe Kizer comes through the fire of this season a better, hardened, experienced but very young quarterback. Or the flip side is he breaks down mentally or physically, or maybe he just hits his ceiling and plateaus at his level.

No matter what I'm kind of glad we're playing the kid. I think he'll either sink or swim and we'll know for sure by the end of this season what we have in Kizer.

I fully acknowledge that Kizer has the worst receiving corps in football right now. The running game is poor.

That said, he’s routinely overthrowing receivers even on short crossing routes. He has yet to connect on a deep ball. He’s had some bad interceptions.

His defensive coverage pre-reads yesterday (or lack thereof) almost got him killed.

The scary part is - you can take away every single drop by our receivers and his completion percentage is still in the 50s. His accuracy issues have always been in question. That is not going away.

What is he doing thus far that has been a net positive for the offense?

I’m not giving up on him yet but I have seen few things to be excited about besides his physical attributes and press conferences.

@Randolphkeys @az

Would love to hear (read) your thoughts on kizer through 4 games.

First off, I have yet to make it to the Browns Backers to watch a game really carefully. Here's what I see.

He feels less and less comfortable with each passing week. The Bengals defense has been underrated this year, they lit up Aaron Rodgers, but the claims that Kizer is especially good against the blitz are now inaccurate. Opponents in the preseason keep blitz packages vanilla, and now that games matter I see a Pavlovian response from Kizer getting sacked so often. His decisions and accuracy are both trending in the wrong direction with each hit. Keeping the glass half empty, this shouldn't have been a surprise because despite Indy and Cincinnati getting off to bad starts, they had talent. Even when Kizer had time to throw, he looked like a 21 year old rushed onto the field.

Positives - He hasn't stopped looking to make plays from the pocket. If he had ANY receiver who made an inaccurate ball catchable or a quality receiver who caught 50/50 balls like Larry Fitzgerald or Hopkins can, some of these problems would be masked. He suffers from how Browns his supporting cast is on offense aside from being rushed onto the field. So, not a lost cause... but a bad situation that I hope doesn't break him.

I've always liked reading you and Boobie's QB takes.
No disrespect to other posters but you guys have pretty strong track records over the past 7-8yrs.
Thanks bud!

It's so hard to evaluate Kizer because he truly has zero help out there. This receiving core has to be the worst in the league. The running game has to be damn near the worst in the league. It's a crime to have a rookie QB with such laughable support. With competent NFL players around him, his numbers would look drastically better. Regardless, he still makes a ton of mistakes just as any QB does. I just hope he survives all this and gets a legitimate opportunity.

Kizer vs. Bengals:

Behind LOS: 3-4
0-10: 12-26
10+ yards: 1-4

Less than 2.5 seconds to throw: 8-11
More than 2.5 seconds to throw: 8-23

He was pressured only 14 times yesterday by the Bengals defense and completed zero passes when facing pressure.

I admit the Browns WR's are trash but I don't think these short passes have a lot to do with WR play-- it's about QB pre-snap reads and ball placement. Seems like the receivers are getting open when he's getting rid of the ball quickly and clearly Hue adjusted his gameplan to try and help him with more short passes but it clearly didn't work.

So, should he stayed bench?

Are there positives to him playing horribly?

Perhaps he just needs to step back and take it all in before getting back in there.

I think it could help Kizer to see Hogan come in and make successful drives with the same exact playbook and players.

Kizer isn't seeing the field very well and he can get flustered in the red zone trying to do too much. Hogan comes in and hits throws that don't look like they're there for Kizer but maybe that's on Kizer since those open receivers are there for Hogan. I think Kizer's timing is kind of fucked and he has lost trust in his receivers.

Whether its poor play or poor play calling, playing Kizer is not the right move. Hogan moves the team. And since Hue is hell bent on running a particular offense and not making things easy for Kizer, may as well put in the guy that can move the team.

Another early QB pick ruined.

Still early, but things are not going as well as we all hoped after that first game.
