A Closer Look at Derrick Williams

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is totally different. DWill > Beasley and Rose was ten times better of a prospect than Kyrie. I like both players, and would be happy with either at 1, but let's stop acting like Kyrie is going to be a star. He could be, but I see him becoming a Terrell Brandon type Point. We haven't seen enough to believe Kyrie is that much better than DWill. If the rumors are true and Knight destroyed Kyrie in the private workout with the Cavs, I'd lean towards DWill. I want both, but I'd rather have DWill tbh. I just don't see how people think Kyrie is going to be a star, but still think DWill is a much riskier pick. They both have equal risk. Who would you regret passing in the end, Terrell Brandon or Larry Johnson? Just think about that when deciding this pick.

I'm not trying to be a jackass, but what rumor is that? There are a million draft posts so I could have easily missed the post about it, but this is the first I've heard of this rumor.

That's not how it works. There's no guarantee that these two end up like those two. If I said Irving's ceiling was Chris Paul and Williams' was Derrick Coleman, then what?

That's because the rumor is not true. Kyrie didn't work out against anyone, so there's no way Knight could have "destroyed" him.

Yeah, I just assumed he meant that Knight destroyed him by having a much more impressive workout than Kyrie did when Knight came to visit.

No one is saying that Williams won't be good -- I think he'll be a good player.

But a PG is always more important than a PF for a rebuilding team. Stats, sample size, and potential have nothing to do with it.

Jameer Nelson 20th overall
Tony Parker 28th pick overall
Rookie Rajon Rondo 21st overall
Chauncey billups 3rd ( after being traded)
38 year old Jason Kidd 2nd overall
Bibby 2nd pick overall ( benched for chalmers)
Derek Fisher 24th overall
Eric Snow 13th overall (2 finals with 2 different teams)
Jason williams 7th pick overall
Devin Harris 5th overall, Jason Terry 10th Overall. these two were more 2 guards than point guards so I am listing both
Mark Jackson 18th.

Theres your point guards for the last 11 years of finals.

a Point guard capable of championship level basketball play need not be a number 1 pick.

Magic Johnson ? 6-8 played both forward and guard
Allen Iverson ? went to the finals as a 2 guard
Rose and Wall? has not won anything and his teams reliance on his offense proved to be a liability. Wall too soon to call

Cavs are drafting on best player available. not a point guard or small forward or center. They are determineing who will have the biggest impact and be productive long term.

not filling a need. so it doesnt matter what positional formula youve concocted for cleveland. the only reason they are looking at irving is because he is beleived to be the bpa not because of a "need" to draft a point guard

considering derrick Coleman was a fantastic player just a headcase and injury plagued. talent wise thats not bad at all.
14 years in the league. 1 time all star , rookie of the year.

And yet he never quite reached the level many thought he would because of he was a head case, which is my point. A guy can have all the talent in the world, but we can't really know if they will pan out or not.

he was also in basketball purgatory with the hornets for 5 years but yes either williams or irving could turn out to be headcases. but when coleman was drafted there was questions about his work ethic. he also had alcoholism

He was highly touted out of high school and exhibited very reckless behavior his freshman year.

I haven't seen any of these red flags with Williams. in fact he seems more intent on hitting the gym than going to party with his buddies.

For someone who says shit so matter of fact like your spelling in almost every post is horrendous. How the fuck do you misspell purgatory with a b? They are nowhere near each other which makes me think you honestly believe purgatory is spelled burgatory. If you are going to always be so god damn condescending at the very least learn how to spell.

I find me stating five years when it was three far more grievous than misspelling purgatory. apparently you missed that or would of brought it up. I certainly would have if I wanted to rant at someone.
Coleman's career is easily verified from multiple sources.
Im not sure why someone with a lack of work ethic and who suffers from alcoholism would be associated with derrick williams when he has not been reported to be disruptive and evidence shows he is quite the hard worker.

The point is, anyone can throw out random examples to back up their "opinion." I didn't realize this was a formal debate where everything had to be spelled out clear as day. The poster I quoted used Brandon and LJ to support his opinion that Williams will be a better player. From my point of view, this was not a fair analogy, so I threw out two random names.

I thought points A and B were easily connectable. Didn't realize I needed to build a bridge and provide directions.
