Amare Stoudemire may be available...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The problem is that the Cavs probably feel a little more pressure to win right now considering this is LeBron's contract year. As of right now, Amare puts the Cavs in better position to win the title in 2010. Is it at the sacrifice of 4-to-5 years down the road when JJ fully develops? Possibly, but the front office probably feels the pressure to make a deal and when you have a 27-year old All-Star as a legit option, it's hard not to at least look into it.

Yes, to win a title now, is worth the sacrifice of J.J. imo. It's not about developing talent now, it'a about winning the whole deal. Sacrificing J.J./his future play for a championship should not impede making a move if they want to make a move...but I believe they can win it without trading for someone. But if they feel they need to upgrade somewhere via trade...then don't let a potential future J.J. stop you for a run at the 'ship now.

Like a Jamal Crawford sort of thing... i wouldnt mind that at all

That is my point sort of. If JRich came here off the bench he would still play starter minutes. He could back up the 2/3 (I think the 3) and be that spark off the bench to get the team off of a rough stretch. Most championship level teams have that sixth man that can take control of a game. Lakers have Odom, Atlanta has Crawford, Orlando has a lot of potential sparks, Denver has JR, Dallas has Terry, Cleveland has umm Andy. lol JRich would be awesome coming off of the bench because we could bring in Delonte to play the 1 (if he isn't traded), JRich at the 2, LeBron/Moon at the 3, Andy/Amare at the 4 and Shaq/Z at the 5. Just as long as we have someone at the 1 that can counteract Jrichs defensive woes then we would be in a good situation with him. But he can't start with mo.

Let's see a possible lineup of:

C - Shaq
PF - Amare
SF - Moon
SG - JRich
PG - Lebron

OMFG!

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Phoenix Suns are closing in on a deal that would send All-Star forward Amare Stoudemire to Cleveland, according to sources with knowledge of the negotiations.

Stoudemire
The Cavaliers would send Zydrunas Ilgauskas and J.J. Hickson to Phoenix in exchange for Stoudemire, one of the league's most dominant big man.

While Cleveland remains in talks with several other teams, the club, from management down to the players, has settled on Stoudemire as its first choice.

The ball is in Phoenix's court. The Suns are mulling whether the financial relief provided by Ilgauskas's $12 million contract and the young and talented Hickson are enough for them to part with Stoudemire.

Cleveland believes the addition of Stoudemire would all but seal LeBron James' re-signing with the team when he becomes a free agent this summer. The Cavaliers are also prepared to sign Stoudemire, who has one year and $17 million remaining on his contract, to a long-term contract extension once the season ends.

The Suns will likely waive Ilgauskas, which would allow him to be re-signed by Cleveland after 30 days.

Cleveland is also talking with Washington about acquiring Antawn Jamison, as well as Indiana about Troy Murphy. Meanwhile, Golden State is trying to entice the Cavs into taking Corey Maggette for Ilgauskas.

While Cleveland has zeroed in on Amare Stoudemire, it benefits the Suns to let the process play out until the last hours before Thursday's deadline.

Sources with knowledge of the negotiations said Saturday night that the Cavs and Suns were in serious talks about a deal that would send Zydrunas Ilgauskas and J.J. Hickson to Phoenix in exchange for Stoudemire, one of the league's most dominant big man.

Stoudemire is averaging 21.2 points and 8.6 rebounds on the season.

But reports that the five-time All-Star Stoudemire could be headed to Cleveland have led other clubs to spice up their offers to Phoenix, according to sources.

The ball is now in Phoenix's court.

The Suns are mulling over whether the financial relief provided by Ilgauskas' $12 million contract -- they'll likely waive Ilgauskas after the trade -- and the young and talented Hickson are enough for them to part with an impact player like Stoudemire.

And the Cavaliers have to be fairly certain that Stoudemire would be willing to re-sign with them before giving up the fast-improving Hickson.

However, according to sources, Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala, appears to be the Suns' top choice.

So far, the Sixers have been leery of giving up their best player for Stoudemire.

While Stoudemire has good relationships with LeBron James and Shaquille O'Neal, some close to Stoudemire believe Miami -- where he lives during the summer -- is his first choice.

Miami has pursued Stoudemire hard but has no one on its roster (besides Dwyane Wade) that interests Phoenix, according to sources. That includes Michael Beasley. So it would take a three-team deal for Stoudemire to be traded to the Heat.

Of course, Cleveland can also pursue three-team deals that would sweeten the offer for Phoenix.

After the Butler trade to the Mavs, I hope and believe (and pray!) that the endgame here is Jamison, not Stoudemire.
True, Stoudemire does not lock us into a bad contract after this year...but as BW and others have stated, the downside is that we will more than likely have to give up JJ to get STAT.
The ideal situation IMHO is that we get Jamison WITHOUT giving up JJ.
Jamison at 6'9" is undersized at PF and can move to the SF position which gives us greater flexibility.
We can play Jamison at PF, Shaq at C, LeBron at SF or Jamison at the SF, JJ/Andy at PF, LeBron to the 2....much more mix-and-match.
Also allows JJ to continue development at PF.
Jamison can "stretch" (I know, I know) the floor while STAT is mostly an inside guy.
Neither play solid D...so it's a wash there.

That's why I'm thinking this whole Amare thing is Kerr running interference for his buddy Ferry (payback) in order to lower Washington's bar on Jamison.
And that Jamison...not STAT...is the endgame.

Who gives a fuck if we give up JJ for STAT?

STAT has just as good of a jumper if not better than Antawn, difference is he doesnt have the range...so what if he cant shoot 3s? we have plenty of cats who can.

Can we stop re-posting old articles? Yes, lurkers-that-only-post-at-trade-deadlines, I'm referring to you guys ..

I get that a lot of people are concerned with the "chemistry" issues that Amare might bring with him, and there are others that look at his injury history and wince a little (I have), but this is a home run deal. In fact, it bears a striking resemblance to the Pau Gasol deal the Lakers pulled a few years back. Here are the two scenarios:

1. Team A trades below average center and high potential prospect (among other things) for unhappy big man. Said big man has voiced his displeasure, is coming off a major injury, and is a dynamite offensive player. Some still question big man’s toughness and defensive abilities, but many dismiss questions because he is joining best player in the world.

2. Team B trades average center (who they will get back) and high potential prospect for unhappy big man. Said big man has voiced his displeasure, is coming off a major injury, and is a dynamite offensive player. Some still question big man’s toughness and defensive abilities, but consensus says that shouldn’t be an issue because he is joining best player in the world. As a bonus, said big man happens to be one of the best PnR players in NBA history and is joining another one of the best PnR players in NBA history.

Now, the elephant in the room is Amare's contract situation, but I find it hard to believe he would turn down the chance to play with LeBron James for at least the next 3-5 years.

Everyone talks about Shaq and Amare failing to coexist, but people forget that the Suns went through a drastic change in philosophy in Shaq's one full year there. When Shaq was first traded to the Suns, Amare was putting up ridiculous numbers alongside him. He won't put up those numbers with the Cavs because of the style of play, but I see no reason for his scoring efficiency to take a hit.

And while he may not be a three point threat, he is a better mid range shooter than Jamison. Just imagine a big three of LeBron-Mo-Amare... all of them 27 and under!

(For the record, I realize the latest reports say a Cavs deal is the "last resort" for PHX. But DO NOT underestimate Sarver's power in this kind of decision. He wants the money deal. The Cavs are offering the money deal. I'm trying not to get too excited yet, but still, this could be a major turning point in Cavaliers' history).

RE: cavs deal being "last resort". in the article, it actually meant that suns are looking to get more talent in return namely getting philly involved to net iggy. but in either case, cavs still get amare no matter what.
