Andrew Wiggins

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Don't look now but Wiggins is averaging 26.3 PPG on 18.6 FGA per game, and shooting 54% from 3.

He gets insane respect from the refs, 9 free throw attempts per game (compare Lebron at 6! No excuse for that). And he still doesn't put up the assist, rebound, or block numbers he should. But he is emerging into a star.

Can anyone comment on how his defense has come along?

Synergy says opponents shoot 4% worse from three and 9% better from two.

The lack of defensive stats is irresponsible in this day and age. You really have to rely on the eye test

Nba.com has the best stats page for defense now, I think.

It's still just a snapshot. Defense is so much a team concept that it's hard to look at these stats and get a clear picture without watching him.

That said, opponents are shooting way, way better against him than they normally average.

Waiters still is elite at screaming 'And 1!' while blowing a layup and not being
fouled.

Yikes. He's crashing down to Earth after that great start. 9 of his last 48 from the field, no defense, no playmaking.

Wiggins is a great athlete, but it's heart wrenching to watch the games when that's all that he looks like. It seems like basketball doesn't come naturally to that kid some days. He's like the opposite of Paul Pierce. All the physical tools with none of the "it".

Looking back, this would be a pretty surreal starting 5:
  • Irving
  • Waiters
  • Wiggins
  • Bennett
  • Thompson

I think LeBron doesn't get more free throws because they are afraid he'd break the league if they called every foul he's been hit with.

This is why I forgive LeBron for the decision.

I think with Wiggins showing us a nice 16 PER and Love with a 25 and a ring 3 years out, it is quite clear that we won the trade. I was afraid of the trade not because it made sense but because I thought Wiggins might be a generational player setting the CAVS up for a decade and a half run but to me Wiggins can now be classified a good guy. He might make an all star team but will not carry a league.

Cavs didn't win that trade, Minnesota won that trade because Love wouldn't have signed there after that season.
They got Dunn and Towns because of that too. So no, the Cavs didn't win this trade.

Wiggins had plenty of value and Love in the end was a better fit because Lebron led teams need a stretch 4 but I still think any other stretch 4 would have done the job almost as good but good enough to reach the finals where Love wasn't a factor.
See Frye and how excellent he works with LBJ.

They're going to have to make some moves to get a better fit of players. KAT is the future of that team but you're going to have too surround him with guys who can get him the ball, defend, and space he floor. I'm not sure how Wiggins will fit with him: I thought he was going the route of Kawhi or George but his defense isn't very good and his best attribute on offense is the ability to draw fouls. The Carmelo redux is not a bad analogy but reminds me in some ways of guys like Maggette who made their careers using athletic ability to get to the line?

Also how do they plan to have Lavine and him co-exist? Similar skillsets in that they need the ball to be effective and at the rate Lavine has improved I'm still not sure who will end up being the better player
