Was wondering if you can stream any website to your TV if you use Chromecast.

I have a PS3 and a Xbox 360, but the movie sites I go to don't always work with the console's browsers.

I can login with like HBOGO in a chrome browser and then send it to the TV. My wireless is kind of iffy so it's way worse than when I connect via the phone. I'd say yes but YMMV depending on your router.

So I can basically load up a bootleg movie site on my PC and send it to Chromecast?

You can stream the Chrome browser(there is a chrome extension), but I would not recommend it for videos. It is really laggy and the audio is always out of sync. But when you stream through HBOGO, Netflix or Google services, it connects directly to their servers from Chromecast, so that works without a problem.

Do you know if Apple TV or Ruko would do what I'm looking for?

Apple TV does a pretty good job with airplay with the Macbook(any device with OSX) or the IOS devices. You can stream 1080p videos without a problem (also depends on the router and the bandwidth it supports, most do).

I'd recommend Roku because it's a more open platform, and when it comes to media centers and "bootlegs," that's paramount.

But check if your TV supports DLNA, because if it does, you can just use that. You can also use any DLNA media playback device, including a PS3 or an Xbox 360. You can also use a WiDi receiver... There's many options.

Personally though, I think your approach is wrong. Instead of trying to stream bootleg movies over the web via a browser, which is totally ass backwards. DOWNLOAD the movies, and then watch them using either a media center or just a usb memory stick. It's simpler, better quality, and a lot more straight forward.. It's also free.

Downloading just seems like it's asking for more trouble. I would rather stream when I can.

Trust me, it's not.. and streaming movies over the web, fuck that... especially when you don't have an HTPC... Again, you're way better off just downloading them, bro. Seriously.

When I find a movie that will stream on my PS3 it plays just as if it was a DVD. It's just so easy to find it streaming.

Last I'll say on it, but torrents and usenet (especially) are your friend. Learn to use them.. Setting up RSS feeds to download EVERYTHING that comes out and is popular is what I used to do.. So when I come home from work, turn on the tv and bam.. everything is right there...

Every movie out in theaters right now is on the net as an HD rip.. If you only had a laptop with limited storage, or a shitty internet connection, then it'd be different totally.. But if you're in Ohio, and you do have a computer AND a PS3... Well, my advice would be to change the way you think about piracy.

People are recommending Roku and Apple TV but are failing to mention that Chromecast is your $35 alternative and not a shabby alternative, at that.

I have one, I love it. I use it every day.

I've streamed movies from my laptop via Chromecast on multiple occasions with little-to-no issue at all. There is about a 2 second delay from the laptop stream to the television but haven't run into any other technical issues.

As someone else had mentioned, just download the Chrome extension and cast a tab from your browser. There are also ways to cast your entire desktop if you want to stream downloaded movies - Google it.

I agree that the chromecast is nice, but you have to have your phone or computer on to use it. With my Apple TV, i casn just walk in the room, and turn on netflix, or music. If it did not own a mac computer and a few ipads and iphone then I would have gone with the Ruko.

I have Chromecast, it's ok, more of a pain sometimes. I just bought a return ROKU 3 off of NeweggFlash for $70. I've used ROKU before, chromecast is decent (it will be better in the future) but for more streaming, I go ROKU.

I'm with gouri,

I use torrents for everything - movies, music, software, HBO shows, etc....

I have an Apple TV (impulse buy, although not completely regretful because of Netflix and Airplay integration) in bedroom so streaming all downloads to that TV via iTunes is seamless. Otherwise, I stream directly to iPad or throw the file on a memory stick and plug into VIZIO TV in living room. It doesn't get much easier.
