Anyone have Google Chromecast?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Can you guys explain what Plex does? I have a Chromecast, sounds interesting.

Plex is everything iTunes should be, but isn't.

It's software to install a local media server on your home PC that you can then use to stream all of your downloaded music, photos, movies, etc to other devices such as smartTV's, appleTV, chromecast, iPad, iPhones, Android devices, etc....

No more container restrictions. Better yet, you can access your "server" from anywhere, so you still have access to your stuff while away from home. The program is intuitive, easy to use, and cheap. It automatically grabs metadata for your media as well, so it completely catalogs whatever you have and presents the library in a clean, polished UI.

Ok, gents. I need some advice re: what device to use for streaming video from my NAS device to my Panasonic Plasma (still better picture quality than LEDs, if you ask me!) I've been going the Gouri route for years now, downloading my media via torrents, storing on external HDDs, and playing using my PS3's media player.

Fast forward to today, and I've sold the PS3 (got $150 out of it before the PS4 was announced), and am in the process of setting up a NAS device for all my media. Here's my issue: What should I use to access the content stored on my NAS? Roku? Apple TV? Buy another PS3 and/or XBox for cheap?

For the Apple TV, its my understanding that all content you'd like to stream must be in your itunes library. Can I do this with my NAS setup, or do I have to actually copy the files over onto my laptop's HD and import them into my library?

For the Roku, is there anything stopping me from accessing the content stored on the NAS?

I think my question basically can be boiled down to this: I need a network-connected DLNA media player to access content on my NAS device. Which is the cheapest/most reliable route?

I hate Plex. I've never been able to get any renderer to see my stupid library.

I am looking at an lg blue ray dvr with wifi b530.. I was thinking about trying this instead of rokue. it seems to be wireless N. has anyone compared this to the roku. apparently it has smart tv programmed in

More than likely an issue with the audio/video codec abilities of whatever you're trying to render on.....?

I've had Plex for 48 hours and have had zero issues streaming via iOS, AppleTV, chromecast, and my PC. The only issue I've had is with my Vizio smartTV, which doesn't support mkv/mp4/m4v formats.

Imo a device that runs xbmc is the way to go to pair with a nas. I have 6 TB's streaming to a jailbroken apple TV 2 and haven't needed TV service in over 2 years now. Plays everything I've ever thrown at it.

I built a cheap HTPC a year ago. 200 bucks out the door.

I have an AMD A4-3300, 4GB of G.skill ram, a micro atx Asrock motherboard, 1TB western digital hard drive, and a Rosewill micro-atx slim case with power supply. Runs on windows 8 (free from my school).

I love it. I can stream literally anything on the internet, emulate n64/snes games (the processor isn't powerful enough to emulate gamecube games). It can play a lot of good older PC games too (HL2 era), but unfortunately not many have good joypad support (i used wireless xbox 360 controllers). I absolutely love it and it's versitility is crazy.

I'm thinking about putting an ssd in it for increased on/off time since it acts as a TV peripheral to me. I dont have cable.

Have you tried handbrake?

I use handbrake when I have to do some conversions, fixes, etc. I literally cannot get any renderer *Samsung Smart TV, 360/PS3, Phone/Tablet* to see the Plex server. If it sees the server, it won't find anything in the libraries.

I tend to just use Universal Media Server, and I have little to no problems.

I'm sure if I took the time to dive into Plex, I'd be able to figure it out. I just don't see any benefit to it for me.

Are there a lot of Audiobooks available on torrents?
