ARTEST WATCH 09 ! (Artest to Lakers? CBS Sports pg.153)

Re: Chris broussard on espn 850...About artest...Very interesting

I was pushing for Ron Artest immediately following the Palace brawl, so you know where I stand here. With Lebron and Shaq in place, I think he'd fall into line and do his job and stay out of trouble. Houston's problem was not having a perimeter option good enough to take the ball out of Ron's hands and that enabled him to take some silly shots, but he would clearly have to defer to Lebron here. He's a decent shooter from range and has a solid post game which he could really work on here since he wouldn't be tasked with very much creating off the dribble. His defense speaks for itself.

He's enough of a wildcard to scare off a lot of teams, especially younger teams and those not ready to contend. That narrows the pool considerably.

If he was at least 6'10, i wouldn't have a problem with him on this team. We need a taller starting PF. Size was a huge difference between the Magic VS Lakers series. The team with more rebounds always have a better chance of winning. When you have a small lineup, that lineup will be quicker than the bigger lineup, but the bigger lineup will always have the advantage on the boards..No rebounds = No championship. The Lakers learned that exact lesson when they faced the Celtics in the previous NBA finals..

the problem i could see is that detroit might offer charlie a nice contract....there was an article on espn (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4295858) that boozer might not option out of his contract ("Sources close to Boozer told ESPN.com that the power forward is still mulling his options and won't make a decision until Tuesday. However, sources say that there's a significant chance that Boozer will exercise his player option and return to the Jazz next season")

....if that happens i think charlie would become one of detroits primary targets and we should look at artest especially if he considers signing only a one year deal (low risk for us, keeping our 2010 cap space....)

Re: Chris broussard on espn 850...About artest...Very interesting

I'd stay away from Artest. Battier, yes. Artest, no. Since Gibson is from Houston, you might get away with giving Boobie and scraps for Battier. Talk about your lock down defending wing player. Battier would start immediately and defend the best wing player on the opponent's team. And Lebron has played with him on the Olympic team, too.

Re: Chris broussard on espn 850...About artest...Very interesting

Pretty sure Mike Brown was a pretty big Artest supporter actually. Obviously he was there with the whole brawl thing - but Mike certainly knows how great of a defender Ron is, and he's a great fit for our style of play. Still questioning what position he'd play though or if he'd come off the bench.
I could have sworn when the Kings were shopping him, Mike Brown said he wanted nothing to do with Artest.

Re: Chris broussard on espn 850...About artest...Very interesting

yea but he plays the same position as lebron and hes not the big or SG we need, and i dont want to use the mle for a guy that will come off the bench

Re: Chris broussard on espn 850...About artest...Very interesting

Hmm, forget trading Andy. If Artest is willing to come here for nothing, it's possible Houston might want some assets. They could S&T him here for Gibson+Kinsey (NVM, FAIL), which is 4.5 mil. But I don't know how to make this work.....

Re: Chris broussard on espn 850...About artest...Very interesting

It would be hard for MB and Bron to get shaq, ron & the team in one mindset...Lucky thing Bron & MB have some relation to them

We can choose to go small and get a guard(parker)

or we can choose to get artest+frye ---> whereas artest comes off the bench & when him and bron is in the game together, bron guards the SG while artest guards the 3...Its kind of confusing though

Re: Chris broussard on espn 850...About artest...Very interesting

If we could sign both..

PG-Mo
SG-West/Green
SF-LeBron
PF-CV
C-Shaq

sixth man- Artest

I'd rather see

Mo
Artest
LeBron
CV
Shaq

SM/SMOTY: Delonte WEST!

But getting both, IMO, is virtually impossible.

I dont understand you...Artest accepting the MLE is good b/c that is below his talent & what he brings to the table...Also it makes our bench stronger, which was one of our major weakness this year...Why not have a good bench?

Re: Chris broussard on espn 850...About artest...Very interesting

We all need to get Artest avatars like we did for Mo in the Post Season. The push for Artest!

Re: Chris broussard on espn 850...About artest...Very interesting

Artest would be the 6th man. He'd take over the Wally role, of a guy who can fit in with LeBron at the 3/4 positions when they play small ball. I'd look for him to fill a Ginobili type role. He lets LeBron play more of a roaming defender at times and comes in for match ups at the 3 or 4. He also lets LeBron get some more rest as well as letting LeBron play a bit more at the 4 (which is a good thing).

Re: Chris broussard on espn 850...About artest...Very interesting

What are the chances of being able to sign both Artest and CV? And if they do could we get them to agree to half of the MLE and make the deal a big bonus loaded contract like if you help the team with 45 games you get a $2 million bonus and if they average 10+ppg you get a 2 million dollar bonus, just to make it so they actually get their bonus money? Could we even do that to their contracts to make it a big bonus contract?

Re: Chris broussard on espn 850...About artest...Very interesting

Does anybody else question, at all, the fact that we won 66 games and came within about 3 baskets of making the finals, and now we're basically contemplating/excited about the concept of completely remaking the roster/starting 5?

Just seems weird sometimes.
