I think when you look at the gap between the next best rookie QB from Mayfield and the gap between the next best rookie RB from Barkley it says a lot about what Mayfield was able to accomplishDickerson had 1800 yards rushing and 400 yards receiving and its considered the best rookie rb season ever, true.
But he also had 4.6 yards a carry vs the 5.0 that Barkley had. Barkley had 500 less yards rushing, but 300 more receiving. Barkley had 15 TDs vs 20 for Dickerson.
But my point is that in the 80's it was a very RB heavy league and starting RB's typically got the vast majority of the carries. Barkley did this in an era when RB isn't nearly as important and the numbers are pretty close.
I am just saying this is closer than you are making it out. Barkley was the third best RB while Mayfield was somewhere between 10-15.
The whole reason we are saying Baker over Barkley is because of the importance of the position, but if we are making that argument which is valid, you have to point out that during Dickerson's rookie year, they ran the ball a ton more and the position had more value back then.
Just being a counter argue point because while I have Baker ahead of Barkley, its not by much.
Then I keep going back to the year when Dak won it over Zeke. I think there’s the best recent precedent for this
