CLE is a short plane ride to NYC- He'd be able to maintain a relationship with his son living in CLE.
If his kid is the biggest issue for him, no way he goes to Houston.

If they can keep Love AND add Melo, this would be a successful offseason. they'd likely make a small move here or there to add some depth.

Then likely Wade after the trade deadline.

I cant wait for the custody battle where Melo brings his kid to Akron.

Melo Jr & Bron Jr play at SVSM for four straight national titles.

All while Melo retires and grows old in a house right next to Lebron.

They get their happy ending.

If you can somehow get DJ and Melo (Blake to NY with Porzingis) I think you may have to take that chance. Although DJ and Paul George would be interesting as well. The issue with the PG trade would be that both teams Clippers and Pacers would want picks

There's a lot of talk that Carmelo would be willing to accept a buyout to come to Cleveland. But unless he's taking a huge discount (and he won't cuz he's always chased every penny he could get...nor should he when he's owed the money), the Knicks have absolutely no incentive to buy him out with two years left on his deal. Even if we trade him for scraps, that would still be better than paying him to play for someone else.

Agreed 100%... I think the buyout talk is to just tank his own value...

Personally,

I think it would be smart for the Knicks to try and buy him out and get that cap hit off the books. Why would you want him to play that albatross of a contract out in NY?

Buy-out Melo, find someone to take Noah's absurd contract. Strip down, and start putting pieces around the best young big in the game in Porzingis.

I doubt the Knicks see it this way, but that's the direction I'd want to go. You're just stunting your rebuild by keeping him on the books.

Yeah he was never getting bought out at his current contract. Melos gotta be realistic. If he actually wants to win and play for the cavs he's gotta take a hit. Take a buyout for 20M and hope he can make it back by balling out this year and getting a big contract elsewhere next year.

Hell he could probably make it back fairly easy if he went to a no/low tax state. NYC has massive taxes on the rich.

The bolded is not happening... forget that.

Also, I really don't want Melo on a 1-year stop-gap deal... I think that'd be detrimental to the Cavs long-term stability trying to integrate a piece like that into our roster, lineup, and our system just for a single year.

If Melo is only going to be here for a single year, he'd have to come off the bench. Otherwise, we're better off focusing on improving elsewhere.

IMHO, Melo's gotta be a Cavalier for at least two seasons so that we can commit to integrating him and he can commit to working on his game for the Cavs.

Much cheaper to shop at Crocker park then the streets of Manhattan lol Maybe he can make some money back right there.

Sometimes I miss Ohio... but then .. I get reminded of it, and I don't miss it anymore.. :chuckle:

Yeah I think it depends where you are in life, but there are parts of cle that come a long way in the last 7 years. West 25th for example looks like a whole new area.i think it is just enough to keep nba players happy for a few years, which is all Melo would be here for. We don't need these guys to retire in cle, just be happy enough to play there for a few years until Lebron is done.

How long does it take from Cleveland to New York on flight?
