Beer snob thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I consider the area north of NorCal wine country up to Oregon the Disneyland of beer. So Cal is just too hot, so they make light pilsner type beers, at least they did until San Diego became innovative about 6 years ago.

My first visit to the West Coast was a week stay in Portland during their annual Craft Brewing Month in July. I had so much fun I proposed to my wife in Portland during a July mini vacation about ten years later. The rest of the country has caught up in the craft beer game, but Oregon takes it seriously.

A few favorites:

1. Alaskan Brewing Co. Smoked Porter (Don't leave the West Coast without trying one.)

2. Bear Republics Racer 5 (just a perfectly balanced IPA).

3. Drake' Amber Ale from San Lorenzo.

4. Anything whimsical from Lost Coast Brewery in Eureka or Pyramid in Oakland.

5. Find Bridgeport, Deshutes, and Columbia River breweries 22 oz or a tap somewhere and enjoy the best of Oregon.

Keys, do you remember a couple years ago when I tried to get you to send this to me? :chuckle:

Alaskan finally began shipping to Ohio. I had that beer about a month ago. Phenomenal.

Such a great brewery. The only time I've been to an airport bar, got up to catch my flight and thought to myself, "oh shit, I got wasted somehow.". I just had to try as many as possible.

I've been out to the west coast a few times in the last couple years for work and vacation. Obviously there are a lot of breweries out there, some are amazing, others not so much.

LA has been upping their beer game lately. In addition to what has been mentioned, places like Monkish, Bottle Logic, and Noble Ale Works are solid. Beachwood BBQ and Brewing is also a good stop. They have a couple locations. Lastly, Firestone Walker recently opened a place in Venice. LA area is massive though so it really depends where you are staying at.

Can we at least get some pics of Keys & Moz drinking some mead together while playing bocce ball outside of the Full House house?

I'll donate more money to RCF, if so.

The ball is in your court, guys.

Checked out Ballast Point in SD. Had some seriously awesome beer. They only ship a small portion of what they have to us on the east coast which is a shame because they have some really great beer only @David. can enjoy:(

AT Lagunitas now and plan on hitting Russian River today as well.

Also can anyone recommend a good beer app to log beers? I downloaded one I liked but after I logged 10 beers I had to pay for the premium version to log more... what kind of crap is that...

@SixPACK you may just get your wish after all...

Untappd is the app everyone I know uses. I used to be more active on there but I don't drink nearly as much beer as I did a year ago and I kind of stopped using it aside from occasional special releases. I used to use that thing damn near every day. Unless they've changed it, it's free.

Not sure if anyone around you uses it, but Taphunter is pretty cool too. You can track local bars and, if they use it, it will let you see what's on tap at any place you follow. It's great if you follow people who actively keep it up to date because you can figure out if a place has some beers you want to try before you go there.

Ballast Point's Grapefruit Sculpin is one of the best beers I've ever had. Definitely in my top-20. Pisgah's Tropical Wheat (Asheville, NC) is still the best I've ever had.

I love grapefruit and I love beer.

And yes, I also love the grapefruit sculpin.

Will have to try the tropical wheat. Do they ship it to VA?

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks man

Anyone in here live in or near Athens, Ohio or traveling down this weekend? Jackie O's is having a pretty massive event today and tomorrow.
