Beer snob thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Their Asheville brewery is fucking amazing. They have like dozens of beers on tap, great food, and the place looks like a ski resort. The outdoor area in the back is really cool...tons of outdoor games like cornhole and bocce and a walking trail that leads down to the river.
I got the chance to go in September when my friends got married in Asheville, can confirm it's legitimately awesome!

Thank you @Jack Brickman for mentioning Blackout Stout. Edmund Fitz holds me over quite well but Blackout Stout is amazing.

I'm going to be freezing my nuts off Saturday morning smoking a turkey for Friendsgiving and was thinking about what beer to pair with it...

Also regarding Sierra Nevada...that was the first beer I legally purchased, being a "foodie" I was excited to get into craft beer, the only stuff I'd had before that was your typical college beer. Drank a six pack of it on my 21st birthday and vomited. One of only a handful of times I've puked from drinking.

Good beer tho

Do they just not distribute there? Or is there just no demand? Have you tried talking to owners of whatever place you buy your beer from? If you're a regular, a lot of places will look into getting beers for you if they can. This is especially true for craft beer tap houses and bottle shops.

The one I go to the most can get me pretty much anything I ask for provided that brewery distributes to NC. I had a hell of a time getting Burning River, but that was only because his Great Lakes distributor literally did not carry it for the longest time.
Great Lakes does not distribute to Tennessee, unfortunately. And even in southern Kentucky most bottle shops won't have the seasonal stuff. I've found a store in Bowling Green, Kentucky that has most of the year rounds. And they will usually order the more popular seasonal brews like Lake Erie Monster, Blackout, Christmas Ale, and one or two others. That is usually where I go to stock up.

With the ABV cap finally lifted, anyone going out to look for Bourbon County's in the Cleveland area? I'd really like to get my hands on some of the variants, but can't justify standing in line on Black Friday for a beer.

My ass will be in line by 6 AM. I know @TheLand1287 is really into beer as well & may stand in line.

@selby56 if you're near Nashville at all, you're doing yourself a disservice by not going to Southern Grist and Bearded Iris daily!

Oh trust me, I go to Bearded Iris at least once a week to try the new releases! I get off work early once or twice a week, and when I do I'm sure to visit Bearded Iris for happy hour. Monday through Friday from 5 to 6 they have $3 IPAs and $5 DIPAs.

Southern Grist is also very good, definitely my second favorite in Nashville. Smith & Lentz is a newer one and those guys have some pretty good stuff too. If you're ever in the area they're worth a look I think.

Drove by the location of the upcoming Victory / Southern Tier brewery they are opening in Charlotte. That place is going to be amazing. Opens in March!

I think this city has over twenty breweries now.

Too bad we didn't have this conversation before. My buddy just got married in Nashville on the 4th; he's the assistant brewer at Southern Grist (and from Cleveland). They brewed a few different beers specifically for the wedding weekend/night. The City treated me well, although I did get an IV treatment for my hangover on Sunday...

Are you on Untappd?

I have a good friend Indy that worked Goose Island, so I've been able to get the Bourbon County series fairly easily over the years. Not to mention I've heard that even local Krogers will be getting it around here. I'm not planning on waiting in line, but will for sure buy a bottle or two if I come across it.

I got a ticket to CBS release at Founders for weekend of 12/2. That's what I'm most looking forward to.

Oh damn. I had no clue one of the brewers there was from Cleveland. I'm going to have to go there more often for sure. The beers there are phenomenal, never had a bad one. My friends and I all love Bearded Iris, so that is just where we end up going most of the time if we go to Nashville. I'll steer us to going to Southern Grist more often. Maybe I'll run into your buddy one day, I'm almost always wearing Cleveland gear haha.

Yeah, I am on Untappd. Same username that I have on here.

Nice! Ya, my buddy is a huge Cavs fan also, so you'll have some kin folk there. He actually just today told me he put in his 2-week notice at his current gig to go full-time at SGB. I think their head brewer is from Wooster as well, so we've got roots there! :biggrinthumb:

I've got a ticket to Willoughby for the first bottling of the Vietnamese Nut Smasher next Sunday. Pretty excited about that.

I'm going to try to get to a CBS tapping; the first time I did that a few years back, Lizardville Lakewood was like a tin of sardines.

I'm still trying to make some relationships in the trade arenas. I know we drink a lot of the same stuff, but ever interested in trying to trade some stuff?

Absolutely, always interested in trading. I do a decent amount of it off of Facebook groups... mainly flipping Hoof for other IPAs from Other Half, Trillium, Treehouse, The Veil, etc. Like you said, being so close in proximity, we usually get most of the same stuff. But let me know if there is anything you'd be looking for.

I actually haven't had any of the Willoughby rarities, but really want to. I live in Toledo and frequent the Cleveland area 5-6 times a year, but rarely ever go east of downtown.

Also, @selby56 I gave you an add on Untappd. If you're ever interested in getting into trading, I'd be interested as well.

I added you too @selby56. You can figure out who is who...

@Soda @TheLand1287 Added both of you. @Soda if you're in Cleveland, I'll actually be up there for a day or two next week. I can bring you some Iris or Grist if you'd like, let me know. @TheLand1287 I see you're in Toledo, so we can do a trade by mail after Thanksgiving if you're interested.
