Beer snob thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So i cleared out my china cabinet last week ( stuffed with random beers) and just started drinking them. Because what else am i suppose to do with beer. Turns out i should have checked what i was drinking. One of the beers i found was a heady topper my parents got me as a birthday present a couple years ago when they went to vermont....

For those of you that dont know its one of the highest rated and most sought after beers on the east coast.

Several of my friends on untapped are pissed at me for not telling them i had it/didnt share. Its highly recommended. If you are willing to go to vermont to get it....

Sad couple of days here in North Carolina. Our state's best brewery, Wicked Weed, sold out to Budweiser last week. A local bottle shop, Brawley's (the first beer store I ever visited after moving here...they gave me a free pint glass when I told them I had just moved and found them online), subsequently made national news by dropping all of their products.

Really sucks to see a brewery as successful as Wicked Weed sell, though. I doubt it will have all that much impact on the quality of their beer, but it's always lame to see a great craft brewery get sold to a massive company like AB.

A really successful Virginia brewery Devil's Backbone sold out to AB as well

Won't have a drop of them anymore. Wasn't a huge fan to begin with which helps, but there's way too much great craft beer out there I can buy that I'm not supporting that

Yeah, had a few of their beers here. They had the tap handle that looked like a tree branch wishbone, right?

Edit: Yep. Googled it. Definitely had their beers before.

I visited ashville a couple of times and could just never get into it. Unique beers but almost too unique

It sucks about both of these. But dont fault the owners. Most of these guys that have developed these micobrews have started from the bottom floor. They have literally poured their heart and soul for 7-15-20 years into their product. Im not saying you have to buy it but you cant fault a guy for cashing on his lifes work.

It's my understanding that NC has terrible distribution laws on the books. If I'm understanding that correctly, I'm not surprised Wicked Weed made the move just to go after a further market reach.

We do, and the big distributors pay off our Republican legislature to keep it that way.

Just picked up a bottle of Great Lakes Ohio City Oatmeal Stout. Quality beer.

Also grabbed Nosferatu (one of my favorite fall seasonals) and Blackout Stout (one of my favorite winter seasonals). And had a Christmas Ale last night at the bottle shop I bought my mixed sixer from, as they had a few in their cooler.

I also noticed that they fucking finally started distributing Burning River here. I used to be able to get it at a bar or two, but no shops carried it and I had no idea why because I think it's the best non-seasonal Great Lakes beer. Happy to see I can now buy it whenever I want. Used to have my parents bring it to me when they visited. :chuckle:

Had my first Xmas ale of the year while out at dinner last night. Seemed less intense than previous years. Went down pretty smooth.

I would kill to find some Cleveland brews here in Tennessee. Is it bad that on a few occasions I've drove an hour to Kentucky just to stock up on Great Lakes?

Nope, I'm cool with one of the people at my local bottle shop. They do the ordering of beers, whenever a seasonal comes out, they will order and let me know when it's in.

As a poor college student, the only beer that isn't your typical college light beer (Natty, Bud, Miller, Keystone, etc.) that I somewhat consistently have is Sierra Nevada.

Where does that put me in the rankings of elite beer drinkers?

Do they just not distribute there? Or is there just no demand? Have you tried talking to owners of whatever place you buy your beer from? If you're a regular, a lot of places will look into getting beers for you if they can. This is especially true for craft beer tap houses and bottle shops.

The one I go to the most can get me pretty much anything I ask for provided that brewery distributes to NC. I had a hell of a time getting Burning River, but that was only because his Great Lakes distributor literally did not carry it for the longest time.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Sierra Nevada, kind of want to go buy a sixer now.

Their Asheville brewery is fucking amazing. They have like dozens of beers on tap, great food, and the place looks like a ski resort. The outdoor area in the back is really cool...tons of outdoor games like cornhole and bocce and a walking trail that leads down to the river.
